Trail Blazers Tipped To Ignore Major Dylan Harper Red Flag if Cooper Flagg Plan Goes Sideways

The Portland Trail Blazers are ready to make major moves at the NBA draft. The Blazers, who showed flashes of greatness this past season, are inching closer to being a top pick in the draft. The draft lottery is this coming week, and the world seems to be wondering what’s next for all of the teams listed for a chance at the No. 1 pick.

The Blazers have a 16.9% chance to pick in the top four of the draft, with a 3.7% chance of landing the top spot. While the Blazers being given the no. 1 pick seems a bit unlikely,  landing in the top 2-4 would be great as well for the team.

The list of draft prospects and good players who have a game that would translate to the league is much higher than some realize. With that, the Blazers could secure a future centerpiece of their team within the first four picks.

Could the Blazers Draft Dylan Harper?

In a new mock draft with Bleacher Report, the Blazers are listed as the second pick, which would be amazing for the team if that happens. The Blazers would absolutely have an interest in taking Cooper Flagg if they were able to snag the No. 1 pick, but if they are indeed the second pick, the mock draft shows them picking a guard with a lot of upside.

Dylan Harper, the dynamic guard from Rutgers, is listed as the second pick for the Blazers, which could be amazing for the team while raising some questions. The Blazers are very guard-heavy at the moment, with Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons listed as their top perimeter players.

Henderson has been going through some ups and downs since arriving in the league, so perhaps the arrival of Harper could prepare them for eventually moving on from Henderson. Simons also had some ups and downs this past season, but he only has one year left on his contract.

While drafting Harper might seem redundant due to the Blazers’ number of guards, one would imagine they have a vision for Him if they were to draft him. Harper does fit well with the Blazers’ direction in the coming season.

Could Dylan Harper Be The Guard To Lead The Blazers?

Harper, who averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in his rookie season for Rutgers, could be the guard the Blazers need. Harper feels like a superstar when he steps onto the court, showcasing his dynamic offensive skills and displaying his prowess on defense. Harper shot 48.4% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range, which are solid numbers.

If Harper can raise that three-point percentage by a few points as he enters the league, the Blazers might have something special on their hands. It remains to be seen what the Blazers have planned for the rest of their roster, but Harper feels like a natural fit there.

Of course, if the Blazers somehow end up with the No. 1 pick, they will absolutely enter the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes and select him. While that’s unlikely, stranger things have happened in the draft. Where will the Blazers pick in the NBA draft? We will find out next week.
