Stephen Curry Shares Heartfelt Message for Electrifying New York Crowd as Historic MSG Run Continues

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry put on a show against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. In 33 minutes, Curry scored 28 points while shooting 10-for-21 from the field, including five three-pointers in a comfortable 114-102 Golden State win. Once he got hot, there was little for the crowd to do but appreciate his greatness.

After the Warriors finished off the Knicks, Curry talked about what it was like to dazzle the New York faithful.

Stephen Curry Praised New York Knicks Fans’ ‘Amazing’ Energy

During his postgame interview with TNT, Curry praised the Garden’s atmosphere while also noting that he treasures the opportunity because it’s rare for him to play in the Mecca.

“Even in college, you only get one time a year in here. The energy is amazing, obviously. The basketball history,” Curry said.

Curry has played with the Warriors since 2009. Playing in the Western Conference, he and the Warriors face the Knicks only twice per year, with one game being played in each other’s arena. While he faces every Eastern Conference team in their home arena only once a season, New York stands out because, well, it’s New York.

Curry’s kind words only make it harder for Knicks fans, knowing how close they were to getting the two-time MVP back in 2009. The Warriors were one slot ahead of the Knicks in the 2009 NBA Draft, where they picked Curry with the No. 7 pick. The Knicks then picked Jordan Hill, who didn’t even last his rookie season with the team.

While Curry would go on to become one of the most entertaining players to ever play in the NBA, New York struggled until recent years to build a formidable core. Seeing how much he enjoys playing at Madison Square Garden makes it all the more painful to know that his success could have been the Knicks had they just been a little luckier in the lottery.

Though, to be fair, Curry was seen as a boom-or-bust prospect, so that only looks worse in hindsight. Many thought the Warriors took a big risk picking him, but that risk came with a high reward — one of the best point guards of all time.

It also demonstrates that the best of the best always enjoy playing in the Big Apple because of the crowd. New York is such a spectacle on its own, no matter how the Knicks are doing, so it’s an opportunity for the NBA’s best talent to showcase itself on the biggest stage.

If there’s one player who understands and embraces that, it’s Curry.
