On the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take, Marcus Morris Sr. decided to stir the pot and NBA fans cooked him right back. When asked who the most feared player in the league is, Morris didn’t flinch.
He skipped over Warriors superstar Stephen Curry and pointed to his former Clippers teammate Kawhi Leonard. That’s right, Leonard. Not the man with 4,000 career threes and a 52-point game just days ago. And fans absolutely lost it.
Marcus Morris Picks Leonard Over Curry
Morris didn’t just question Curry’s dominance, he practically dismissed it. While praising Curry’s legacy, he made it clear who he thinks is the real nightmare on the court
“I wouldn’t go far and say Steph Curry,” Morris said on First Take with Stephen A. Smith. “Listen, he’s very respectable. Everybody knows Steph Curry, if not the best point guard to ever play the game, right? But I gotta disagree with you. I’m gonna talk about No. 2 with the Clipper-Nation, I’m gonna go with Kawhi Leonard! The reason why is because, Kawhi… healthy, is a totally different player.”
That comment lit a firestorm online as fans went hard on Morris over his take.
“Spew any kind of bulls**t for the likes and eyeballs,” one fan raged, clearly stunned that Morris passed over a guy who just dropped 52 points with 10 rebounds and 8 assists on the Memphis Grizzlies, becoming the first player ever to notch 50+ points, 10 threes, and 5 steals in a single game.
Another fan couldn’t believe the audacity and commented: “The f**k is he smoking?”
Meanwhile, Curry continues to defy age and logic. At 37, he averaged 23.8 points per game in March, making him the oldest guard to average 20+ points in a month since the great Michael Jordan himself. And with his 52 points, he tied Damian Lillard for sixth-most 50-point games in league history.
The numbers don’t lie, but still, Morris insisted that a healthy Leonard is a “totally different player.” Although, fans weren’t buying it.
“Yes… we all fear Kawhi getting injured lol… that’s about it,” one fan sarcastically posted, referencing the fact that Leonard has played just 32 games this season, averaging 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
“Ol handicap Kawhi,” another user bluntly added.
Someone else chimed in, “The f#ck wrong with him and his takes today?”
Curry Keeps Breaking Records
To give more context, Curry just led the Warriors to a 123-116 road win over the Los Angeles Lakers with a 37-point performance. The Dubs are now 45-31 and climbing.
One fan nailed the general consensus: “Y’all really had to invite someone who’s gonna say more garbage than SAS and Perk combined to take some heat off of them being so terrible.”
Safe to say, if Morris was looking to go viral, he definitely succeeded.
But Curry’s recent run speaks volumes about his brilliance. He has averaged 25.0 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.6 rebounds in his last five games, showing no signs of slowing down.
And with that historic 52-point explosion, Curry just reminded the league of his greatness. Morris may not fear him, but the rest of the NBA world sure does.
