Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s superstar, is redefining NBA scoring dominance that hasn’t been seen since the 1960s. By breaking a more than six-decade-old record with at least 20 points in 127 straight games, he didn’t just move up the ladder; he surpassed the NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain for the longest 20+ point streak in NBA history.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Surpasses Wilt Chamberlain With Historic 20-Point Game Streak
This milestone occurred during the Thunder’s game against the Celtics at the Paycom Center on March 12, 2024. In a close 104-102 victory, Shai also solidified his place in NBA history as one of the league’s elite offensive talents.
Wilt Chamberlain’s 126-game streak, which lasted from October 1961 to January 1963 and survived for 63 years, was finally surpassed by Shai in March 2024.
And the last time SGA failed to reach 20 points was on October 30, 2024, when he scored 18 points in a win against the Spurs.
It was also when Drake Maye was just starting his NFL journey and had only 3 games under his belt, the Dodgers were celebrating a World Series win over the Yankees, and Luka Dončić was still the face of the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to Los Angeles in a blockbuster deal.
“I would have gave the record for the W any day of the week,” SGA said after the milestone. “I’m just proud of the group… We find a way to win, and that’s what it’s about, no matter what it takes.”
He added, “Really just want to say thank you to the people that are around me, the people that see me every day, grow with me every day, and help me just have fun with life.”
Following Shai’s is his 2024-2025 winning streak. He won an NBA title, the Kia MVP, the Finals MVP, the scoring title, and consecutive All-NBA First Team honors in just over 496 days.
The secret to SGA’s historic run is his efficiency and the relentless focus on incremental growth. He is currently averaging the league’s 2nd-best PPG (31.8), 14th-best APG (6.6), and 14th-best FG% (55.4).
In the game against the Boston Celtics, he ended the night with the highest score of 35 points, along with 6 rebounds and 9 assists, while shooting 13-of-18 from the field and 2-of-5 from the three-point line.
His philosophy seems to be simple: “So focused on getting better – individually and as a group – I stack days, stack plays, stack wins, stack games and I look up and I’ve accomplished a few things.”
With the Thunder currently sitting atop the Western Conference (52-15) and on a 7-game winning streak, it’s clear that Shai’s individual achievements are fueling the team’s success.
