Sandro Mamukelashvili Sends 8-Word Message to Lakers Fans After Landing $52 Million Payday With Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers pressed the reset button this offseason, ushering in a brand-new era for the men in purple and gold. Following LeBron James’ exit after eight years, General Manager Rob Pelinka wasted no time in executing a roster remodel to build a competitive squad.

To keep the team firmly in the postseason hunt and maximize the franchise’s championship hopes, the Lakers’ front office seems to be prioritizing spacing and size. By using the available cap space, they targeted the free-agent market to secure a major piece who could provide a reliable second-unit boost on offense and play alongside their core stars.

Sandro Mamukelashvili Lands Major $52 Million Deal With Los Angeles Lakers

With a roster opening to fill following James’s exit and Rui Hachimura heading to free agency, the Lakers needed a big man with a similar offensive profile to fit into head coach J.J. Redick’s rotation alongside franchise cornerstones Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.

The solution to the Lakers’ problem arrived in the form of a massive financial commitment for free agent Sandro Mamukelashvili.

On July 1, ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news of the agreement, reporting, “Just in: Free agent F/C Sandro Mamukelashvili has agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal to sign with Los Angeles Lakers, with a player option for the fourth season, sources tell ESPN.”

Shortly after the fully guaranteed $52 million payday went public, the 27-year-old big man took to social media to share his excitement with a clear, eight-word message for his new fan base.

“Excited to be part of the Lakers family. #LakeShow,” Mamukelashvili tweeted.

The 6-foot-9 forward-center is coming off a breakout year with the Toronto Raptors. Appearing in 80 games, the former 2021 second-round pick averaged career-highs of 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 52.3% from the floor and 38.9% from beyond the arc. His paint scoring and perimeter shooting make him a clear fit for L.A.’s second-unit offense stagnation.

The Lakers are anticipating a balanced frontcourt rotation with Mamukelashvili’s floor spacing and the rim protection of recently acquired Walker Kessler this upcoming season. They finished the 2025-26 season with a 53-29 record, but their postseason run ended after a disappointing 4-0 sweep by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals.

By locking down Mamukelashvili, the Lakers have diversified their frontcourt options and hope to overcome last season’s shortcomings for a much deeper postseason run in 2026-27.
