The Toronto Raptors stunned the league with their run to the NBA Cup quarterfinals, but the vibes have shifted lately. Four straight losses have cooled off their hot start, and the void in the starting lineup is becoming impossible to ignore.
With the team sitting at 15-11, everyone in Toronto is asking the same question: When will RJ Barrett get back on the floor to stop the bleeding?
When Will RJ Barrett Return to the Court?
Top NBA insider Marc J. Spears provided a crucial update on the situation. Spears reported, “The Toronto Raptors say RJ Barrett, diagnosed with a right knee sprain, continues to progress after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection. He is scheduled to begin return to play activities this week.” The scoring wing has been sidelined since injuring his knee on a dunk during a 119-109 win over the Brooklyn Nets last month.
The recent results paint a clear picture of how much Toronto misses Barrett. The team has dropped four consecutive games, struggling to find rhythm without their key starter. Despite this rough patch, they remain in the thick of the playoff hunt, holding the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 15-11 record.

Barrett was playing efficient basketball before the injury, averaging 19.4 points per game on 50.6% shooting from the field and 35.6% from deep. His scoring volume has dipped slightly, but that adjustment was expected after the front office acquired former All-Star Brandon Ingram this past February.
Lower usage has actually helped his game. He currently boasts an elite 60.4% true shooting percentage and a positive net rating for the first time in four years. If he maintains his current pace, his 117.1 offensive rating would mark a new career high.
While the offense is clicking, the defensive end remains the priority. The Raptors rank in the top 10 for scoring defense and defensive rating, setting a high bar for Barrett to meet. Critics have long noted his lack of defensive impact, particularly given his physical abilities.
He has shown flashes of being a plus defender, but consistency remains elusive. Head Coach Darko Rajakovic will undoubtedly look for more stability on that end once Barrett is cleared for action. Regardless of the defensive questions, getting his production back in the lineup should help Toronto regain its early-season momentum.
