Former NBA Champion Paul Pierce has not played in an NBA game since retiring in 2017. However, he claims that he can still make a comeback to help one particular team that he believes needs shooters.
Paul Pierce Says He Can Help the Orlando Magic
During Friday’s (Nov. 28) episode of the ‘No Fouls Given‘ podcast, former San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green asked Pierce which team can benefit from him today.
“I can help Orlando [Magic], they need some more shooting,” Pierce said in response to Green. “I can give [them] spot shooting. You know I can knock down some shots. They’ve got Desmond Bane, but outside of that, their shooting has been inconsistent. I can get you some open wide looks and some hard fouls right now.”
Pierce added that he can play as a stretch power forward and that he needs six weeks to get in shape. Specifically, he said that he needed to drop around fifteen pounds to be able to do this.

Pierce, who won a championship with the Celtics in 2008, shot 36.8% from beyond the arc during his 19-year NBA career. He also finished shooting over 40 percent from downtown three times in his career.
The first time he did it was in his very first year in the league, where he made 41.2 percent of his 3-pointers while averaging 4.3 attempts per game. The next was in 2001-02, wherein he drained 40.4 percent of his deep shots. The last season he did it was in 2009-10, where he sank an impressive 41.4 percent from deep.
If Pierce can provide this type of shooting to the Magic, they might be able to join the top teams in the Eastern Conference. As a team, they’ve made just 35.6 percent of their 3-point attempts while averaging 32.8 attempts per game. Heading into Friday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons, this is only the 19th-best in the league.
Among their players who have attempted over 25 threes so far this season, Wendell Carter Jr. (49 attempts) has been the most accurate at 44.9 percent. He is followed by Tristan Da Silva (90 attempts) and Jett Howard (44 attempts), who have made 41.1 and 38.6 percent, respectively.
The Magic’s shooting woes have impacted their place in the standings, as they sit at 11-8 ahead of Friday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons.
