The ongoing drama surrounding Ja Morant has most of the basketball community wondering if his career with the Memphis Grizzlies has come to an end.
Despite entering the league and quickly establishing himself as one of the most explosive and athletic point guards, Morant’s young career has already been tainted with multiple controversies and allegations being leveled against him.
Fans will remember that Morant has dealt with lengthy suspensions and other forms of punishment due to his alleged gun activity and gang-related behavior. Following his behavior in the aftermath of the Grizzlies’ recent loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Morant was unable to maintain his professionalism during the postgame interview and ultimately criticized the Grizzlies’ coaching staff.
As a result, immediate action was taken against the Grizzlies star, with reports emerging that he would face a one-game suspension. Given that issues surrounding Morant have already begun to materialize less than 10 games into the season, Grizzlies fans have no choice but to ask themselves if their team will end up trading Morant.
Will the Memphis Grizzlies Trade Ja Morant?
Before his off-court issues became apparent, many believed that Morant was a generational talent with the potential to cement his position as a superstar and a future face of the league.
However, his actions, as well as the Grizzlies’ lack of success over the past few seasons, make one wonder if it is time for the two sides to part ways.
Assuming the Grizzlies wanted to trade Morant right now, they owe it to themselves to perform their due diligence for the best possible package. After all, Morant signed a five-year contract worth $197 million extension in July 2022 and still has two-plus seasons remaining on his deal before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
While Morant’s fan base may presume that several teams across the league will be interested in adding him to their roster, recent reports from NBA Insider Tim MacMahon suggest that there is no substantial demand or market for Morant.
“Ja Morant would NOT have a “robust trade market” if the Grizzlies tried to trade him.”

Any team that has to give up a great deal of assets to acquire Morant will likely want assurance that he will stay out of trouble and operate within the rules and regulations that all players in the league inherently adhere to.
Unfortunately, there is simply no way to know if Morant will comply and adapt to a new situation, making any potential suitor hesitant to engage in trade discussions.
Perhaps Morant should be given the benefit of doubt in this particular situation. The dynamic between players and their coach is something that is usually keep private. There is clearly some form of friction and tension between Morant and the Grizzlies’ coaching staff.
Fans are left hoping that the team will be able to resolve its internal issues and continue pushing through a difficult start to the season.
