‘A No-Brainer’ — NBA Analyst Urges Kevin Durant to Force a Trade to This Western Conference Contender

The NBA offseason is one of the most exciting times in all of sports. Watching the rumor mill during this time of year is always fun, and lately, future Hall of Famer and current Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has been at the center of many of those rumors.

This offseason should be no different, as many executives around the league believe fans are in for a wild summer that should start ramping up sooner rather than later. Although there have been many rumors surrounding Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, many believe he would like to remain in Milwaukee.

The most attainable superstar may very well be Durant.

Although Durant will be 37 in September, he is still an extremely effective player — he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 52.7% from the field last season. If Durant truly is available — and with the Suns missing the playoffs this season, that may be the case — he’ll obviously have no shortage of suitors.

Should Kevin Durant Force His Way to the Minnesota Timberwolves?

On “First Things First” on Fox Sports 1, NBA analyst Chris Broussard listed off a few teams Durant could look to play for. He included the option of staying with the Suns if he’s not focused solely on winning and wants to “master the game,” but also believes Durant is “moving apparently.”

“Let’s look at the teams reportedly that are interested,” Broussard said. “Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Minnesota and the Knicks.”

“I’m going to throw out one that to me is a no-brainer… Minnesota…” Broussard said. “There would still be pressure to win, but you know what there also would be? You would have the opportunity to do something bigger than that — mentor one of the young stars of the league.”

Broussard is clearly talking about Anthony Edwards, perhaps the league’s biggest rising star, and he pointed out that Edwards has previously called Durant his favorite player.

“Get rid of the list. Say, ‘this is where I want to go: Minnesota!’ I believe in you KD.”

Giving Edwards a second option in Durant — one of the league’s all-time great scorers — would certainly be intriguing. Power forward Julius Randle had a strong season playing second to Edwards and helped lead the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals, but Durant would give Edwards arguably the best and most dangerous second option in the league.

He could also help Edwards continue to rise as one of the NBA’s top stars. Teams are already short on answers for Edwards offensively, and a move like this would only make him more dangerous as defenses have to shift their focus from one superstar, to two.
