Insider Announces Major News on Jonathan Kuminga Ahead of Injury Return

Jonathan Kuminga is set to miss his seventh consecutive game because of his bilateral knee tendinitis. Kuminga has been out since Nov. 14, when the Golden State Warriors took on the San Antonio Spurs.

Kuminga sustained the injury during their matchup against the Spurs on Nov. 12. After 12 minutes of play, he hurt his knee and was sent to the locker room. While the Warriors have managed to keep their pace in the standings steady, it appears Kuminga may soon be ready to help them climb the Western Conference ladder.

Jonathan Kuminga Set to Work Out with Santa Cruz Warriors

NBA insider Anthony Slater reported that Kuminga is working toward his return. According to Slater, Golden State will assign Kuminga to its G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, to run scrimmage sessions.

“The Warriors assigned De’Anthony Melton, Jonathan Kuminga, and Gui Santos to Santa Cruz so they could scrimmage with the G-League team today,” Slater reported. “Kuminga and Melton, late stages of injury return, Santos to get some conditioning. They’ll be recalled after.”

NBA teams have increasingly assigned main roster players to the G League when they return from injury. The goal is to prepare them for another grueling set of activities before returning to the more demanding NBA schedule.

While Kuminga is set to practice with Santa Cruz, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr revealed that the forward also participated in the team’s most recent practice.

“He did 3-on-3 before practice and that went well,” Kerr told reporters after practice on Tuesday (per NBC Sports Bay Area). “And then he took part in all of practice. Tomorrow, he will scrimmage. He won’t play in the game tomorrow, but he will take part in a 5-on-5 scrimmage tomorrow evening before our game. And that will give us a good gauge for where he is.”

Given the amount of activity Kuminga has participated in recently, it appears he’ll be ready to return soon.

The Warriors’ upcoming games are crucial as they aim to climb the Western Conference standings. They will face the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder next Tuesday, then begin a four-game, seven-day road trip starting Thursday against the 76ers, Cavaliers, Bulls, and Suns.
