Things truly appear to be going well for Luka Dončić with his new team. With a trade that caught the entire NBA world off guard, the Dallas Mavericks decided to move on from Dončić and traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Anthony Davis.
Although the Mavs assumed they would be the winners of this trade and immediate title contenders, the Lakers appear to have come out on top with the impressive pairing of James and Dončić.
While Dončić did take a few games to settle in with his new team and find his role, he appears to be thriving as the Lakers have now won eight straight games and look to be unbeatable.

Dončić is also finding success at an individual level and recently climbed up the leaderboard in a statistical category.
In today’s NBA, where analytics are everywhere, records are being set almost nightly. But some stats carry more weight than others, and Dončić’s latest achievement is one of them. He now ranks fifth all-time for the most games with at least 30 points and 10 assists, behind players like James Harden, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook, some of the league’s biggest names.

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young is also on this list, which shouldn’t be too surprising given that his two main skills are scoring and facilitating. Some fans might remember that Young and Dončić are from the same draft class and were even traded for each other. While Young has always been the primary option on his team, he thrives with a high usage rate. Dončić operates similarly but has proven he can share the ball and play alongside other stars.
Dončić has totaled 30 points and 10 assists in 84 games throughout his relatively short career, as he and Young are much younger than the other stars on the leaderboard.
All of this speaks to Dončić’s ability to dominate and establish his presence on the court through both scoring and facilitating. Only four players have ever recorded a 30-point, 15-assist game in a Lakers uniform: Magic Johnson, Jerry West, James, and now Dončić.
With Dončić and James leading the way, Lakers fans are eager to see what this duo can accomplish when the playoffs arrive.
