“Every year, I want to be better. That’s the goal for me,” said Luka Dončić, and he’s living up to it. Since his blockbuster trade to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2, Dončić has transformed into an even more dominant force, averaging 27.9 points and 8.7 rebounds and elevating his play to new heights.
On Wednesday night, his performance against the Indiana Pacers added yet another milestone to his growing list of achievements. But it seems like he still has a long road to catch up with this field’s OG.
Luka Dončić’s New Milestone, But a Long Road Ahead
With six made three-pointers and a total of 34 points in the Lakers’ thrilling 120-119 victory, Dončić extended his streak of consecutive games with a made three-pointer to 111.
This feat placed him in the elite club of players with the longest 3PM streaks in NBA history. However, despite his excellence, he still has a long way to go before catching the undisputed king of the three-point shot, Stephen Curry.
Most consecutive games with a 3PM:
268 — Steph Curry
157 — Steph Curry
150 — Damian Lillard
127 — Kyle Korver
111 — Luka Doncic https://t.co/JArZQuialh— StatMamba (@StatMamba) March 27, 2025
With 111 straight games recording a three-pointer, Dončić now holds the fifth-longest streak in NBA history. However, the gap between Dončić and Curry is enormous. The Golden State Warriors Star holds the all-time record with an astonishing 268 consecutive games with a made three-pointer. That’s more than double Dončić’s current streak, emphasizing Curry’s unrivaled dominance in the shooting department.
Curry has been at the top of the NBA’s three-point ladder for years. On December 14, 2021, Stephen Curry reached the record of three pointers made in NBA history by passing Ray Allen’s milestone, i.e., 2,973.
Since his achievement Curry has continued breaking the record further which has solidified his standing as the most talented shooter in basketball history. Currently, he has well over 4000 career three-pointers, and his streaks remind him of his sustained excellence.
For Dončić to even come close to Curry’s record-breaking 268-game streak, he would need to maintain this level of shooting consistency for multiple more seasons without a single off night from deep.
But we can say that Dončić is improving as the point guard had a 34.8 three-point shooting percentage with the Dallas Mavericks, and currently, with the Lakers, he has a three-point shooting percentage of 37.8 percent, which is not much but still improvement.
Though his three-point streak is still a long way from challenging Curry’s, Dončić’s trajectory with the Lakers suggests that more records will fall in due time. He’s already reshaping the franchise’s future, adding his name alongside some of the game’s all-time greats.
However, did you know that the new Lakers star recently had an in-team achievement with the Lakers?
Dončić Joins the Group of LeBron James and Jerry West in Achievement
Dončić hasn’t taken his time proving that he is the ultimate Laker. Since becoming a member of the team the outstanding guard has demonstrated his exceptional skills in distributing assists while increasing his scoring output and solidifying his dominance across the board. By achieving this latest milestone he positioned himself among the all-time great Lakers in team history.
The Slovenian recorded 30 points and an all-time high 15 Lakers assists in the game to create a spot in franchise history by becoming only the fourth player to accomplish such a feat. The Lakers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans by 136-115 through Dončić’s all-encompassing talent on March 4th.
On November 1st, 2019, LeBron James scored 39 points and gave out 16 assists to become the most recent Laker athlete to achieve this milestone before Dončić. Meanwhile Jerry West reached this milestone first during November of 1965. Now, Dončić has added his name to that elite company.
