On Monday, Feb. 24, Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball left the team’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers early after suffering a head injury. The injury occurred during the second quarter when Ball collided with 76ers big man Adem Bona while attempting to defend Kelly Oubre Jr.’s layup.
The impact was serious enough for Ball to immediately walk off the court into the locker room. While his status was initially uncertain, it became clear that the injury was serious enough to sideline him for the rest of the game.
Another Injury for Lonzo Ball Amid Ongoing Struggles
Ball suffered a head laceration and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. With a head injury like that, he will likely enter the NBA’s concussion protocol, meaning he won’t be cleared to return until he passes a series of medical evaluations.
This setback is particularly concerning for Ball, who has battled multiple injuries over the past few seasons. He has already dealt with a wrist injury and missed nearly two full seasons due to injury management for his surgically repaired left knee.
Despite his injury history, the Bulls have continued to show confidence in him. In January 2025, Ball signed a two-year, $20 million contract extension with the Bulls.
Before his exit from the game, Ball had an impactful eight minutes on the court, scoring six points on 2-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc, along with two rebounds and an assist. His time on the court helped the Bulls establish an early double-digit lead against the Sixers.
Just as the third quarter was getting started, the Bulls officially confirmed that Ball would not return for the rest of the game.
What’s Next for the Bulls Without Ball?
Ball’s absence could lead to increased minutes for Kevin Huerter and Talen Horton-Tucker, who will need to step up as the Bulls continue to fight their way out of a slump.
The Bulls entered Monday’s game looking to snap a six-game losing streak, while the 76ers were also desperate to end their seven-game skid.
They are currently battling for a play-in spot, making every game crucial as they push toward the postseason. They sit at 10th in the Eastern Conference and managed to come out as the winner against the 76ers with a 142-110 score.
Beyond his on-court struggles, Ball’s family has also faced a difficult time recently. His father, LaVar Ball, underwent a right foot amputation due to a serious medical issue.
As the Bulls await further updates on Ball’s condition, fans will be hoping for a quick recovery so he can return to action as soon as possible.
