LeBron James, Stephen Curry Make Major Personal Announcement

The NBA’s biggest rivalry over the last decade have been the battles between Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The two icons have completed against each other in several NBA finals, Western Conference playoffs, and memorable regular season games. While familiarity led to natural tension between the icons, they’ve also developed a tremendous amount of respect for each other. That’s why James’ recent announcement shouldn’t be a shock to most NBA fans.

What Did LeBron James Announce Regarding Stephen Curry

James announced that Curry is the next guest on his Mind The Game podcast with fellow former multi-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. James hyped the premier episode by saying ” You wouldn’t want to miss this one!! Curry in the building!”

Nash brings a unique dynamic to the episode as well, considering he’s a fellow point guard alongside Curry. Nash also coached Curry for two seasons following his retirement, as the Warriors hired him as a player development consultant. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr developed a bond with Nash while serving as General Manager of the Phoenix Suns, while Nash had an amazing career there.

Kerr believed that Nash would be a great influence on the team, and that was the case, as Nash helped the Warriors win an NBA championship. Curry, in particular, mentioned that Nash helped him become a better pick-and-roll player. Nash helping Curry and the Warriors win a championship came at the expense of James during the epic four-year stretch of NBA Finals meetings.

Curry and the Warriors would ultimately win three of the four matchups against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2015-2018. The rivalry between James and Curry would continue after James left the Cavs to join the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

James and the Lakers defeated Curry and the Warriors in the 2023 Western Conference semifinals in six games. The Lakers also beat the Warriors in the 2021 Play-In Tournament, with James finishing the 103-100 victory with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. James and Curry have also played against each other on Christmas Day four times.

Both men have praised each other in recent years, with both mentioning how special it was to be teammates after James drafted Curry to his All-Star team in 2021 and 2022. The experiences they shared as teammates at the All-Star Game led to speculation about them joining forces in an official setting.

The speculation grew even louder after James and Curry helped Team USA win another Gold Medal at the Olympics last summer. With James having a year-to-year relationship with the Lakers and expressing frustration at the team’s playoff shortcomings, the Warriors reportedly attempted to engage the Lakers in trade discussions over James. However, talks quickly simmered after James’ agent, Rich Paul, declared that he’d veto any trade and wanted to stay in Los Angeles.

With the Lakers preparing to transition to All-NBA guard Luka Doncic as the face of the franchise, Curry’s appearance on James’s podcast could ignite new rumors that the Warriors are a suitor if James leaves Los Angeles.
