Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks superstars LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo matched up for the first time in over three years on Friday. The showdown lived up to the hype, with Antetokounmpo’s Bucks holding on for a thrilling 105-101 road victory.
Afterward, James showed his appreciation for the two-time MVP during a reverent postgame interview.

After falling behind by 12 points in the second quarter, the Lakers surged back in the second half, taking control with a 17-4 run to start the final frame. However, the Bucks kept fighting, resulting in a back-and-forth finish.
The biggest plays of the game came on the defensive end, with Antetokounmpo securing two clutch stops against James in the final minute. With the score tied at 101-101 with just over 40 seconds remaining, the nine-time All-Star blocked James’ driving go-ahead layup attempt.
Milwaukee subsequently took a 103-101 lead on the other end, with guard Kevin Porter Jr. going 2-for-3 at the free-throw line after being fouled on a 3-point attempt.
Afterward, James had a chance to force overtime. Instead, Antetokounmpo poked the ball away from the 23-year veteran as he drove inside in the final seconds, allowing the Bucks to close out the contest at the charity stripe.

Antetokounmpo’s late-game defensive masterclass thwarted James’ game-high 26-point performance. The four-time NBA champion added nine rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals as LA nearly overcame a nightmarish 8-for-25 shooting night (32%) from his co-star Luka Dončić.
As for “The Greek Freak,” he had a relatively quiet night by his lofty standards, tallying 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks on efficient 9-for-11 shooting (81.8%).
Still, Milwaukee got the job done, with James placing the 31-year-old among a prestigious group of acclaimed NBA icons postgame as he reflected on their first matchup since Dec. 2, 2022.
“At this point in my career, it’s always great to go against some of the greats,” James said. “If it’s Giannis, if it’s Steph [Curry], [Kevin Durant], James [Harden], [Russell Westbrook]. Guys that I’ve been able to go against for a long time, play with.
“Having those matchups is something that — this is Year 13 for Giannis. Obviously, no years on me, and like I said, Russ, KD, James Harden, Kawhi [Leonard], Steph, all of us came into this league a minute ago. So, it’s always an honor and a pleasure to go against the greats.”

The Bucks’ victory marked their fifth in seven games as they continued their success with Antetokounmpo in the lineup. Milwaukee (17-21) is now 14-10 when its franchise player suits up.
Conversely, the Lakers (23-13) have lost two straight contests and six of their last 10 as they face persistent questions about their defensive viability.
