Is Luka Dončić Planning To Stay in L.A.? Lakers Star Makes Feelings Clear About His ‘New Home’

Luka Dončić’s time in Los Angeles has been turbulent since the beginning. Moving to L.A. after playing with the Dallas Mavericks his entire career, one question remained: Will Dončic fit in?

However, with back-to-back stellar performances and title hopes, Lakers fans have welcomed the Slovenian star with open arms especially as Dončić is already winning games, taking charge without LeBron James on the court.

Luka Dončić Is Already Feeling Comfortable in Los Angeles

After a slow start, Dončić has picked up his pace and begun to put points on the board. Since their Feb. 27 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, when Dončić scored 21 points, he has not dipped below the 20-point mark in a now 11-game streak.

After his 21-point game against the San Antonio Spurs on March 17, Dončić upped the tally two days later with 31 points against the Denver Nuggets. As he continues to get more games under his belt, playing for the Lakers has continued to become more comfortable.

Speaking to the media after the Lakers’ 120-108 win against the Denver Nuggets, the young guard discussed his “new home.”

“Dallas was my home for seven years, almost 7 years, it really felt like home, so coming here just trying to build a new home, and I’m getting more and more comfortable,” Dončić said.

Fans, noticing potential in the new James-Dončić duo, are eager to see what comes next. The Slovenian star is set to be a free agent after the 2025-26 season, and many Lakers fans want him to re-sign, hoping they can make a run at multiple championship runs with Dončić alongside James for now.

James, currently out with a groin injury, has kept title hopes alive for L.A. fans for years, though they have not been able to recapture the glory from the 2020 NBA Finals. However, with Dončić on board and a top seed in the league in sight, fans are hoping for more victories.

Lakers Star Austin Reaves Sees Potential in Dončić and His Time in L.A.

While Dončić is growing comfortable in L.A. at his own pace, his teammates have the time to get to know him closely.

And even though it’s just been weeks, Lakers star Austin Reaves is already looking forward to growing his relationship with Dončić.

“It’s been a lot of fun getting to know him. Good dude,” Reaves said. “Needs to stop taking my money and the plane playing cards. It’s been, like I said, a lot of fun, and I look forward to continuing to grow that relationship.”

Dončić recently commended Reaves as well, marveling at the idea that the former Arkansas Razorbacks guard went undrafted.

“I mean, this guy just scored 30 in his four games in five days, and that explains everything,” Dončić said after the Spurs game on March 17.

“He’s an amazing player. For him to go undrafted is unbelievable. It’s not easy to go undrafted and then play at this level. It’s amazing just to be by his side.”

As the team chemistry continues to grow, expectations for the Lakers will only rise as well.
