While the 2024-25 NBA season isn’t over just yet, Rob Pelinka of the Los Angeles Lakers are already considering what moves they could make to improve their chances of winning an NBA Championship.
The Lakers already did a great job this season by getting Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks. However, the roster is still far from perfect and needs important pieces surrounding it to truly contend for a title.
Senior NBA reporter Jovan Buha recently shared an update on the Lakers’ potential moves. While the Lakers have officially confirmed nothing, a look at the move that Buha sees coming could be useful.
The Lakers Are Reportedly Planning To Waive Cam Reddish and Alex Len
Since the NBA trade deadline has already come to an end, there are not many moves that the Lakers could make this season. However, they could still do quite a few things, such as waiving players, signing free agents for 10-day contracts, and turning two-way contracts into one-way contracts.
According to Buha, that is exactly around the lines of what the Lakers are planning to do. At this point, they have not gotten enough production from players on their roster, such as Alex Len and Cam Reddish. Therefore, the Lakers are predicted to waive them and also sign Jordan Goodwin to a standard contract.

By waiving players from their roster, the Lakers create more flexibility for themselves and can even potentially add multiple free agents on 10-day contracts to the team. They can then offer to extend those contracts or make them permanent based on performance.
As things stand, the Lakers need a reliable center. If they follow through with this plan, they could acquire one of the free agents currently available. Cody Zeller, James Wiseman, and Dwight Howard are some of the many options that the Lakers have to choose from.
In any case, fans expect to see this team make quite a few changes to its roster in the near future. After all, the Lakers have to eventually shift from building around LeBron James to building around Dončić.
Although an argument could be made that Dončić is a better facilitator than James, he is nowhere close in terms of athleticism or defensive abilities. Therefore, the Lakers are expected to bring in players who can help strengthen their interior defense and surround Dončić with the right players. Fans are left wondering if the team will be able to get even better before the postseason begins.
