Kristaps Porziņģis has been in and out of the lineup. Over the last nine games the Atlanta Hawks have played, Porziņģis has appeared in only two.
This is due to an illness he has been dealing with. An NBA insider revealed more details regarding the big man’s illness and when he is expected to make a full recovery.

Kristaps Porziņģis is Dealing with a New Illness
Last season, when Porziņģis was still playing for the Boston Celtics, he was diagnosed with an illness known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS.
It was one of the primary reasons Porziņģis could not consistently play during the 2024-25 season. Over the summer, however, doctors were able to find a solution to manage the condition, which medically cleared him to play this season.
Unfortunately, Porziņģis may now be dealing with another significant illness that could affect his consistency. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Hawks star is expected to miss basketball activities for the next couple of weeks.
“Atlanta Hawks C/F Kristaps Porzingis (illness) will miss the next two weeks and undergo further evaluations,” Charania reported. “Both sides are prioritizing the long term of the season for Porzingis, who has missed seven of the last eight games.”
“Porzingis was diagnosed with the autonomic condition, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), last season in Boston,” Charania added. “He and doctors found solutions over the summer to manage his health, and he entered the Hawks season in good condition — before recent bout of illness.”

As of this writing, Porziņģis’ current illness has not been disclosed. There is no certainty whether it is related to POTS. For now, the Hawks are prioritizing his full recovery. If all goes well, the earliest possible return date is Dec. 29, when Atlanta faces the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Porziņģis has played in 13 games so far this season and has proven to be a valuable asset in his first year with the Hawks. The Latvian big man is averaging 19.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game.
With the Hawks sitting ninth in the Eastern Conference at 14-12, his presence would help bolster the team’s chances of climbing the standings.
