The Golden State Warriors achieved a 148-106 win against the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center on Sunday.
During the win against the Spurs, forward Jonathan Kuminga had to leave the game because of a right ankle injury, which left the Warriors with more doubt about his availability.
Kuminga’s Injury And Initial Reactions
Kuminga attempted a basket drive when he fell hard during the second quarter, which resulted in an injury to his right ankle, which had previously kept him out for 31 games during this season. The NBA player first told staff he felt “OK” yet he chose not to resume playing after that statement.
Post-game, Kuminga provided a hopeful update, telling the San Francisco Chronicle’s Sam Gordon that he’s “straight” and expressing optimism about not missing additional time.
Warriors’ Offensive Showcase
The Warriors performed exceptionally well even though Kuminga left the game. Rookie guard Brandin Podziemski exceeded his previous scoring record by hitting seven three-pointers on his way to 27 points.
The team received 20 points from Moses Moody along with 19 points from their reserve player Buddy Hield. The scoring distribution involved Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green, who contributed 40 points among them.
The team’s offensive efficiency was evident, shooting 57.7% from the field and making 21 3-pointers. This dominant display allowed the Warriors to rest their starters in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors moved up to sixth place in the Western Conference following their victory. The Warriors face several challenging matchups, including against the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets.
Kuminga’s health will be a key factor in the Warriors’ playoff push. His athleticism and versatility have been instrumental, and the team hopes his injury is minor.
