When a legendary athlete supports their alma mater, it always creates buzz. However, it is not always necessary for a high-profile star to promote a team simply because it shares a similar background with them. And it is not that difficult to make that happen, since the current sports community is highly diverse, blending fans of football, basketball, baseball, golf, and more.
Recently, however, Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant made a similar move, showing his support for Murray State, his alma mater. His unexpected gesture came when the university made history, securing a spot in the Men’s College World Series for the first time ever.
Ja Morant Sends 3-Word Message After Historic Moment
The legendary NBA figure has an extraordinary level of affection for his alma mater, Murray State. Morant was actually a zero-star recruit coming out of high school. Given his underdog status at the time, there was no guarantee that he could shine on the basketball court the way he does now.
It has been said that he was accidentally recognized by a Murray State assistant coach, which ultimately led to the opportunity that changed his career. So when he saw his former school make history, he couldn’t hide his excitement.
He jumped on X (formerly Twitter) and posted a proud three-word message, “Racing to Omaha” 🐎. The phrase celebrated Murray State’s baseball team, which just earned a spot in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The team pulled off a thrilling 4–3 win over Duke in the super regionals. They became only the fourth No. 4 seed in regional history to reach Omaha, which makes the achievement even more special.
Morant’s response showed just how proud he is. His own story mirrors that same underdog spirit. As a sophomore at Murray State, he averaged 24.5 points, 10 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. He led the Racers to the NCAA Tournament and became an All-American.
The two-time All-Star has a special place in his heart for his school, so his support for his alma mater remains stronger than ever.
The team will now begin another best-of-three series against UCLA in Omaha next Saturday. We hope they win that match as well. If they really secure it, then you can bet we’ll be getting another Morant-style response from the 25-year-old.
It remains to be seen whether the college baseball team can continue its historic run or not
