Ja Morant was eager to reassure NBA fans that his ankle injury would not hamper his production for the Memphis Grizzlies. The 2025-2026 NBA season is only a few weeks away from beginning, and the preseason games are currently underway. While wins in the preseason do not count, participating in them allows stars to get their bodies in shape after a long offseason.
Morant has dealt with numerous injuries over the past few seasons, with critics already claiming that the Grizzlies star is injury-prone and not a reliable asset for the team. These claims were given more weight after reports emerged revealing that Morant sustained an ankle injury during team practice and is currently listed as “week to week.”

Will Ja Morant Play in the Season Opener for the Memphis Grizzlies?
Given that Morant is already injured before an action-packed 82-game regular season begins, one can understand why Grizzlies fans feel worried. During a recent interview, Morant did his best to convince the basketball community that his current injury is a minor setback.
There is no denying that Morant is one of the most athletic and stunning players in the league. Although he has yet to lead the Grizzlies past the second round of the playoffs, Morant is acknowledged by many as one of the top point guards in the league when healthy.
Over the past few seasons, Morant has dealt with numerous injuries and missed a substantial amount of time. He played in just nine games throughout the 2023-2024 season, in which he was also suspended, and played in 50 games last season. Over the six seasons of his career so far, Morant has not played in more than 70 games a single time.
Although there is a small chance that his ankle injury will hamper his start to the upcoming 2025-2026 season, the Grizzlies star confidently dismissed any questions that critics may have concerning his availability.
“They just be tweakin…Panicking. Nothing to be crazy about. If I’m smiling and I ain’t telling you to worry, you ain’t got to worry.”

Since Morant took the initiative to personally assure the Grizzlies fanbase that his injury is not a cause for concern, it is safe to say that he will be ready to suit up in their season opener against Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Grizzlies are yet to win a single game in the preseason, having lost to both the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics. They will hope to get at least one win from their three remaining preseason games against the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, and Miami Heat.
Fans are left wondering if they will be able to start the season on a good note and if Morant will completely recover from this unexpected ankle injury.
