The blows just keep on coming for Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Struggling to keep up in the Western Conference, the Warriors’ season has derailed in a way no one imagined. And while there was hope for a comeback, Curry’s seemingly injury-plagued season might not let that happen.
Stephen Curry Injury Update: Will the Warriors Star Play vs. the New Orleans Pelicans?
On Wednesday night, the Warriors played and lost to the Houston Rockets. The team’s 104-100 outing dropped them to a miserable 10-10 win-loss record, further hampering their chances of a successful postseason.
But their loss wasn’t the worst part of the night. Curry — recently finding his tempo back — limped all throughout the final quarter. He ended up exiting with five minutes left, sending fans into a frenzy about an injury.
And while it’s nothing too serious, the Warriors star will be out for a week — or more. The team was quick to do an MRI, updating fans soon after the game.
“Stephen Curry, who exited last night’s game against the Rockets due to a right quadriceps contusion, underwent an MRI late last night. The MRI confirmed a quadriceps contusion and muscle strain. He will be re-evaluated in one week,” the team wrote in their statement.
Fans, of course, had varied concerns. Some wondered if a delayed return timeline could further harm the team, especially with the team’s problematic defense.
Others worried about Curry’s wellness after he had missed previous games due to an ankle injury and even illness. Curry’s history of ankle injuries remains concerning, casting a doubt on his ability to play with the same intensity.
Curry, of course, is showing no signs of slowing down while averaging 27.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and four assists per game while shooting 47.1% from the ground and 39.1% from the three-point line.
The problem, though, seems to lie in the Warriors’ defensive issues and inconsistent offense. Players like Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga have been called out for their lack of impact, while Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green struggle to fit in with a younger team with Curry.
Warriors HC Steve Kerr is Relieved About Curry’s Injury
Like most fans, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was worried about Curry’s injury. However, since he has injured his quad and not his ankle, even Kerr is “kind of relieved.”
“When I heard it was a quad, I was actually kind of relieved,” Kerr said after the game. “Better than an ankle or a knee. So, hopefully he can recover quickly and be OK.”
The Warriors game against the New Orleans Pelicans is scheduled on Saturday, November 29, at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
