Is LeBron James Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update On Lakers Superstar For Pelicans Game

LeBron James’ presence for the Los Angeles Lakers in their upcoming matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans is a subject of discussion and debate across the basketball community. After all, James missed several weeks to start the 2025-2026 NBA season due to a sciatica injury.

Despite not having one of the greatest players in the history of the league, if not the greatest, on the court, the Lakers started the season well and currently hold an impressive record of 14-4. James’ recent return to action also filled the fanbase with hope that contention for a title is a real possibility this season.

James missed the first 14 games of this season, causing many to wonder if he will be able to remain consistent after his late start. Unfortunately, his recent injury report for the game against the Pelicans implies that the Lakers’ star is not fully recovered.

Will LeBron James Suit Up Against the New Orleans Pelicans?

Given that the league introduced a 65-game threshold to be eligible for several accolades and awards, James’ absence to start the season has already jeopardized his chances of further strengthening his legacy.

While the Lakers have been undefeated since James returned to action, injury reports indicate that he will not play in this game against the Pelicans due to injury management.

Perhaps this makes sense given that the Lakers are facing the Pelicans on the front end of a back-to-back set of games. His expected absence against the Pelicans has led the Lakers’ fanbase to believe that he will return for the next game against the Phoenix Suns.

On paper, James has made the right decision. After all, the Pelicans hold one of the worst records in the entire NBA at 3-17. If the Lakers need James to defeat the Pelicans, there is no chance for them to be viewed as legitimate title contenders.

On the other hand, the Suns have exceeded expectations this season despite trading away Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. Phoenix is at 12-9, just two wins behind the Lakers in a competitive Western Conference. Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, and the rest of the Suns squad are a force that should be taken seriously, especially when compared to the Pelicans.

In any case, this injury update has prompted fans to accept that James will likely be unable to qualify for most accolades this season. That might not matter in the grand scheme of things, especially if the Lakers can win a title this season, adding a fifth championship to James’ legacy in the process.
