After the Los Angeles Lakers made the shocking trade to acquire Luka Dončić, they decided to go a step further to acquire the big man they desperately needed after losing All-Star Anthony Davis.
When the news dropped that the Lakers had acquired center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets, the world began to buzz about the prospect of what the Lakers could be going forward.
Unfortunately for the Lakers fanbase, following news that Williams had failed his physical, the trade was quickly rescinded with Williams returning to Charlotte to finish out the season. There can always be a bit of weirdness or awkwardness when a player trade is rescinded, but since returning to the team, it seems that Williams is taking it in stride.
Mark Williams Gets Candid About Rescinded Lakers Trade
When the news of the rescinded trade broke, many wondered how Williams might have felt. He went from having the chance to play alongside Dončić and LeBron James to being back in Charlotte.
While that might impact a player mentally, Williams seems to take it all in stride as he spoke to the Charlotte Observer about his thoughts on what occurred:
“I didn’t think I had failed my physical. That didn’t even cross my mind. The night I got traded, I played hella minutes. I didn’t think in any world that was possible. Since I’ve been back at the start of the year, I’ve played games with a lot of minutes.
“I feel like every injury I’ve had has been well-documented, and I’ve recovered and been 100% since. So, I don’t know what went into that decision. I think that’s up to them.”
Williams and his teammates seem to be doing just fine as LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges playfully speak to him while he speaks to reporters about his insane two weeks.
What’s Next For Williams And The Hornets?
The Hornets are set to play against the Lakers tonight in a funny bit of basketball serendipity, which will likely be the talk of the league for at least the next day or two.
It is peculiar that Williams managed to fail his physical, yet he’s listed as probable to play tonight alongside his teammates. Will there be a motivating factor for Williams as he does battle against the Lakers?
The Hornets are not contending this year, so will they explore trading Williams again in the offseason? It’s always a possibility, especially in this league.
