As LeBron James weighs his options on which team to join in free agency, legendary coach and broadcaster Dick Vitale has had his say on which team he should play for next.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Golden State Warriors are said to be leading the race to sign James this offseason.
Dick Vitale Tells LeBron James To Join the Cleveland Cavaliers
James stunned the NBA world with his decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and become an unrestricted free agent last month. As the world waits for the four-time NBA MVP’s next decision with bated breath, Vitale has urged him to return to the Cavaliers for a third stint with the franchise.
Vitale believes that Cleveland has everything James needs to win a fifth NBA championship, and a return to his hometown franchise would give James a storybook ending to his career.
“Wow I am hoping that LeBron James finishes his sensational NBA career by signing with his home team, the Cleveland Cavaliers and leads them to the 2027 NBA championship. They have all the elements and LeBron would be a major impact immediate asset,” the former Detroit Pistons head coach and Basketball Hall of Famer wrote on X.

James started his NBA career in Cleveland after being drafted as the No. 1 pick in 2003. He then joined the Heat and won two NBA titles before returning to Cleveland to lead the team to its first NBA championship.
After spending the last eight years in Los Angeles, James is looking for a new challenge ahead of his 24th and possibly final season in the NBA.
The 41-year-old is carefully considering his options before making his final decision. Teams have been holding talks with his agent, Rich Paul, in a bid to convince one of the best players in basketball history to join.
James showed last season that he is still more than capable of playing at an elite level, averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds for the Lakers. He further raised his level during the playoffs but wasn’t able to lead the Lakers past the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
Among the key factors in James’ decision on his next team are his desire to find happiness within a system and his ability to contend for the NBA championship. All five teams that are said to be leading the race to sign him can provide that. Now, it will be up to James to decide which team he believes will give him the best chance of ending his career on a high.
