Raptors Predicted To Cut Ties With $107 Million Star To Trade for a ‘True Superstar’ in Giannis Antetokounmpo

As Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee grows murkier, Raptors are now being floated as a potential suitor if they move one star.

The Giannis Antetokounmpo rumor mill refuses to slow down, and the Bucks’ uneven season is only adding fuel to the fire. The Bucks beat the conference-leading Detroit Pistons 113-109 on Wednesday, but the victory didn’t mask the bigger picture.

The Bucks are just 2-8 over their last 10 games, and the concerns that resurfaced after their third straight playoff exit in 2025 are back on the table.

With uncertainty already swirling, ESPN’s Shams Charania added more heat by reporting that Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have begun conversations with the Bucks about his long-term future.

As Charania put it, those discussions now include whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere. A resolution is expected in the coming weeks, raising the stakes for a franchise that has been on shaky ground for more than a year.

Is the Toronto Raptors Planning a Major Shakeup As Giannis Antetokounmpo Rumors Intensify?

Whenever a superstar’s future becomes unclear, the rest of the league immediately starts calculating. And in Antetokounmpo’s case, every team with even a hint of ambition has to at least ask the question of what it would take.

The latest push in the discourse came from Brandon Austin of PFSN, who spotlighted the Toronto Raptors as a good fit for Antetokounmpo:

“The Toronto Raptors have been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA so far this season, boasting a 15-7 record, placing them second in the Eastern Conference,” Austin wrote. He pointed to their young, exciting core of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley — a group that has already proven it can hang with elite teams.

But Austin also stressed the missing component — that one player who can completely tilt a playoff series.

“This squad lacks a true superstar, and Antetokounmpo would undoubtedly provide that. With the East wide open, the Raptors should strongly consider a move if Milwaukee is open to trading the 9-time All-NBA selection.”

According to Austin, the price would be steep. The Raptors would have to part with real youth and real upside to convince the Bucks to even entertain an offer. He floated a framework built around Barrett and future first-round picks as a baseline.

Barrett signed a 4-year, $107,000,000 contract with the New York Knicks in 2023. He joined the Raptors in December of that year.

The Raptors also have more young talent to sweeten the pot. Recent first-rounders such as Collin Murray-Boyles, Gradey Dick, and Ja’Kobe Walter could give the Bucks a mix of promising prospects if they decide to pivot into a new era.

Austin argued that this is exactly the type of bold move Toronto should consider.

“Adding a proven winner like Antetokounmpo to a team of young players hungry for the playoffs could be a perfect match.”

It’s the kind of push that instantly elevates a high-ceiling young team into legitimate contenders, and the Raptors have both the roster and the asset pool to be in that conversation if the Bucks crack the door open.

Meanwhile, the Bucks still hold the leverage for now. Antetokounmpo is a franchise icon and the heartbeat of Milwaukee basketball.

But the ongoing struggles, the playoff failures, and now the front-facing uncertainty about his future have all reopened the same question of whether the Greek Freak should search for another ring with a different franchise.
