Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics have not had a hot start to the second round of the NBA playoffs. The Celtics are currently facing the New York Knicks and had an astronomical collapse over the series’ first two games. Boston lost both games at home after holding a 20-point lead at some point in each and found itself down 0-2 before winning Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.
Meanwhile, recently, a new ad for the newest Superman movie has launched, and it features Tatum. NBA fans thought the timing of the ad, combined with Tatum and the Celtics’ poor play, couldn’t have been any worse.

NBA Fans Rip Jayson Tatum Over Timing of New Superman Ad
The ad suggests that the original Superman needs to take a break and that Tatum might fill in during his absence. NBA fans went wild over the ad and its timing — coming on the heels of the Celtics’ 0-2 collapse to start the series and Tatum’s below-average play. Fans took to X to let their opinions be known.
“Worst timing for a commercial of all time,” one fan commented underneath a video of the advertisement.
“This man is down 2-0 btw,” another fan stated bluntly.
One fan even got creative with their analysis of the ad and Tatum’s performance, saying the ad was “Fitting, since he’s been disappearing in the fourth quarter like Clark Kent in a phone booth. Commercial might be the only place he’s flying lately. Knicks got him looking more like Lois than Superman.”
A Celtics fan page even acknowledged that “this is not the time, man, this is a terrible time for this commercial to come out.”
“This is the worst time for this ad to drop,” another fan added.
One fan decided to take a different perspective on the ad, suggesting that it was all part of a plan by Tatum and the Celtics, commenting that “this was all planned, now he goes Superman and wins four straight. Truly diabolical to do this to Knick fans.”
To that last comment, Tatum and the Celtics did dominate Game 3 and built a 20+ point lead just as they did in Games 1 and 2. Only this time, Boston didn’t let up, with the Celtics controlling the game throughout.
Tatum himself finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. As a team, Boston shot 50% (20-of-40) from 3-point land. This after shooting just 25% from deep through the first two games.
Tatum and the Celtics still have their work cut out for them to take back control of the series, but time will tell if the Superman ad was actually great timing. For now, though, critics have a strong case.
