‘We Have a Say in It’ – Draymond Green Makes Feelings Clear on Steve Kerr’s Future With the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors’ fan base was left heartbroken last season when their team was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. But despite a relatively quiet offseason with minimal roster shake-ups, the Warriors’ vision under head coach Steve Kerr remains crystal clear. The vision is to make another deep postseason run and chase one more title.

Now, as the squad is off to a promising 5–3 start to the 2025–26 NBA season, that belief in the Kerr-led system is stronger than ever. In a recent interview, Draymond Green made sure everyone knew just how much the Warriors players value their coach’s leadership.

What Did Draymond Green Say About Steve Kerr?

Last month, ESPN’s Anthony Slater sat down with Stephen Curry for an in-depth interview that quickly went viral. In that conversation, Curry made a strong statement about his loyalty to Kerr, saying he had no desire to play for any other head coach.

“I don’t want to. We deserve that, I feel. Things change in this league. We can only control so much. But I think we’re in a very unique situation that we deserve the opportunity,” said Curry during the interview, as per the ESPN report.

From that moment on, it was evident across the league what Kerr means to this group. The thread resurfaced in a fresh conversation with “The Athletic’s” Sam Amick, who circled back to Curry’s words and asked Green where he stood. Green didn’t hedge. He conveyed that he doesn’t see Kerr walking away any time soon, and at this stage of his own career, he doesn’t want to play for anyone else either.

“I struggle with change,” he said. “I hate change. I am very much so (the type of person where) this thing happens like this and that’s that. To try to shift that, my brain just doesn’t do well. But I don’t sit and think about it because I don’t foresee Steve going anywhere. I don’t think we’re done. I think we’ve still got a lot left to give. We’ve all done this together, so I don’t foresee him going anywhere anyway, you know?”

“But I very much so want to finish this thing with the people that I’ve been through it with. Adjusting to a new coach in year 14, going to 15, I cannot sit here and tell you that I have the desire to do that. But I also don’t see our coach going anywhere. …It’s motivating for us because we have a say in it. If you go out, do what you need to do, then all that other sh** takes care of itself,” Green added during the interview with Amick.

It is not hard to understand why the locker room rides so hard for Kerr. He took the job in May of 2014 and almost immediately recentered the franchise around pace and selfless play.

The results filled the trophy case and rewrote the team’s history as the Warriors under him won four championships spread across two dynastic waves and also made six trips to the NBA Finals.

Earlier this calendar year, Kerr moved past Al Attles for the most wins by a Warriors head coach. He achieved it in fewer games and reinforced a simple truth: the standard in Golden State bears his imprint.

“It was a great moment being awarded the game ball by the Attles family, it was really beautiful to sort of be honored by their presence,” said Kerr after becoming the all-time winningest Warriors coach (as per CBS News).

If we examine Kerr’s regular-season record with the Warriors, it stands at 572-311, with a winning percentage of 64.8. Moreover, his playoff record is 104-48, which reflects a 68.4 winning percentage and has also cemented his legacy as the most successful coach in Warriors history.

On the floor, Curry’s start to 2025–26 underscores why that partnership still hums. He is averaging 26.8 points with 4.3 assists, plus 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Meanwhile, Green has been the glue, as he has contributed roughly eight points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per night so far. His impact, though not fully captured in box scores, remains vital through his defense.

As the Golden State Warriors head into Wednesday night’s game against the Kings, the task is straightforward. It is to stack wins, sharpen habits, and let the results speak as loudly as the endorsements.
