Devin Booker Gets Candid About Finishing His Career in Phoenix, Drawing Parallels to 4-Time NBA Champion

Devin Booker has been in the NBA for 11 seasons. Throughout his career, he has only played for the Phoenix Suns. While most NBA stars move between multiple teams these days, Booker remains one of the few who stick with their original team. With that in mind, Booker shared his thoughts on his future with the Suns.

The Suns star recently shared his thoughts on staying with his team. Booker then compared himself to Stephen Curry, another rare NBA star who has remained with his original team.

“You know it because there’s not many,” Booker said after Tuesday’s shootaround ahead of a game against Curry and the Warriors (per Nick Friedell). “So I know he holds a special place in everybody’s heart here in the Bay. And I feel a similar type of love in Phoenix. It’s something special. It’s kind of hard to explain, but there’s a different type of love that comes with it. I wouldn’t want it any other way. … I don’t think he’s going anywhere. And I don’t think I am either.”

After the Steve Nash era ended in 2012, the Suns struggled to compete in a stacked Western Conference. Talent across the league was improving, and teams were becoming stronger. However, in 2015, Phoenix drafted Booker with the 13th overall pick, a move that would reshape the team’s landscape in the coming years.

While it took some time for the Suns to become contenders in the West, Booker’s rapid development was promising. In 2018, Phoenix secured the top pick in the draft and selected Deandre Ayton, who would form a tandem with Booker for five seasons. The duo, along with veteran Chris Paul, eventually led the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021, though they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Their efforts did not go unnoticed. Booker emerged as a bigger star in the 2021-22 season, earning his third All-Star selection and finishing fourth in the NBA MVP race.

Despite the team struggling to replicate their 2021 success, Booker has no plans to join another team. While many NBA stars chase better opportunities to contend for a championship, Booker’s focus is different: giving back to the franchise that welcomed a young player and helped him blossom into the star he is today.

The Suns head into their matchup with the Warriors sitting at 3-4. They haven’t been at full strength this season, with Jalen Green still sidelined by injury, but Booker has been massive, putting up 30.0 points on 51.1% shooting, along with 7.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.
