The Los Angeles Clippers may have been eliminated in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, but they still had their best season in four years. Hence, it would make sense for them to try to add to their playoff roster.
Apparently, the Clippers are looking into just that. They’ve been tied to some notable players already, and it appears they have asked about one of the biggest names who has hit the market this offseason.
Clippers Have Asked About Kevin Durant
Matt Moore reported on his Substack that the Clippers have asked about Durant, like every NBA team has. He also clarified that the Clippers don’t have as much interest in one particular player as was previously reported.
“Law Murray recently said on a podcast that the Clippers’ interest in Jrue Holiday was overstated; I’ve heard the same. They are looking for bigger fish to fry, though I think a deal ultimately is unlikely,” Moore wrote. “Instead of revealing the shocker that they’re a team that has talks with Phoenix about KD, how about this: they, like everyone else in the league, have called Phoenix about KD and just happen to be one of the teams that those talks have gotten out about.”

Durant is expected to hit the market because the Suns are over the NBA’s second tax apron, and their core hasn’t gone anywhere in the last two years, despite the team they put around him.
Even if he is 36 years old, Durant is still one of the best scorers in the NBA. Teams may not have offered that much for him, but that may have more to do with the fact that his current contract is set to expire in 2026 than it does with his age.
Getting Durant would not only vault the Clippers up higher in the Western Conference echelon, but it would also make them feel smarter for letting Paul George walk in free agency last year. Granted, George had a horrible first season with the Philadelphia 76ers, so while the Clippers feel smart enough for that choice, getting Durant would make them feel even better.
Besides the fact that Durant is still an elite scorer, he also has experience playing next to James Harden, as the two played together for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets. Pairing Durant next to an elite playmaker is a proven recipe for winners. With Harden’s and Kawhi Leonard’s careers winding down, Durant would be the golden Hail Mary trade for the Clippers to make.
