NBA Free Agency Rumors: Chris Paul Narrows Down Options to 2 Teams, and Lakers Are Out of Running

Chris Paul has reportedly narrowed his options down to two teams as NBA free agency opens, leaving one team out of the running.

As free agency begins, veteran NBA guard Chris Paul stands out as a top target for teams aiming to boost their rosters as he approaches the final years of his career. Last season, Paul provided vital leadership to the young San Antonio Spurs squad.

Recent reports from NBA insiders suggest Paul has narrowed his choices to two teams, with the Phoenix Suns emerging as his preferred destination.

As free agency opens, veteran NBA guard Chris Paul is one of the top options for teams looking to add experience to their roster. The 12x All-Star recently narrowed his options considerably, according to reports.

“Sources have relayed to me that the Clippers are an option and the Suns are an option; both of those are stops he’s played at before. He took the Suns to the NBA finals. Those are the two teams I’m hearing as of right now,” revealed NBA insider Chris Haynes.

During his time with the Suns, Paul played a crucial role in leading the team to its first NBA Finals appearance since 1993.

The Suns are rebuilding with a younger roster after trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. They acquired one of the NBA’s top young talents, Jalen Green, from Houston and also drafted Khaman Maluach in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft as they continue to shape their team.

Already familiar with Devin Booker, Paul could join the team in a role similar to his time with the Spurs last year, providing valuable experience to a young core.

NBA insider Marc Stein revealed a few days before free agency, “The Los Angeles Clippers, in addition to Phoenix, are another of Paul’s former teams that is said to be weighing a second engagement with the 12-time All-Star,” as rumors continue to heat up.

However, with the Clippers’ roster aging and carrying a high payroll led by 34-year-old Kawhi Leonard and 35-year-old James Harden, adding CP3 could increase the injury issues the team faced last season, as their core continues to age.

As Paul aims to play closer to home, only two of his former teams seemingly remain as options. The Los Angeles Lakers, who were reportedly interested, are currently out of the running as they focus on addressing the potential situation with LeBron James.
