‘This Offseason Is Gonna Be Crazy’ — NBA Insider Brian Windhorst Reveals Why We Could See A Ton of Trades

NBA insider Brian Windhorst has offered a preview of what to expect this summer. Trade and free agency rumors have been heating up well ahead of the 2025 NBA Finals, and the ESPN analyst shared key insights into team finances and what fans should watch for this offseason.

It’s been a busy few weeks around the league, especially with rumors swirling around stars like Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The New York Knicks also parted ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau, while the Phoenix Suns hired Jordan Ott as their new head coach.

Meanwhile, players like Naz Reid and Myles Turner—despite Turner still playing in the NBA Finals—have been linked to the Detroit Pistons. The rumors aren’t slowing down anytime soon and will only ramp up after the Finals wrap.

Brian Windhorst Talks Cap Space and What to Watch This Summer

Taking to Instagram Threads, Brian Windhorst shed light on what to expect this summer. He noted that teams are now talking about players who may not have been on the block before. Limited cap space could also trigger a busy trade market.

A clip from his Threads made the rounds on X, where he said, “In talking to teams, there’s way more chatter on trade discussions at this point in the calendar than it was most years ago. So that doesn’t guarantee anything. And of course, you want to know what players are gonna get moved.”

“I think there are a lot of high-salary players that teams are willing to listen to,” he added. “Maybe players who wouldn’t have been available a year ago or might not be available next year.”

Windhorst also explained that trades may be the only way for some teams to upgrade their rosters right now.

“So what you have is the team’s books look good, but the only way to make a difference on their roster now is to make a trade,” Windhorst said. “And you’re gonna see a lot of attempted action, so stay tuned, and that’s what a lot of people are working on paying attention to beyond this Finals.”

Earlier this year, Windhorst drew criticism from LeBron James after calling him out during a segment. James clapped back with a video on X showing fans praising his “Mind the Game” podcast for its in-depth hoops talk.

Looking ahead, Windhorst will stay busy covering the Finals while dropping trade updates that are sure to keep NBA fans locked in all summer long.
