The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to face the Golden State Warriors on Monday. This marks their second consecutive meeting after facing each other Sunday, when the Warriors came away with a dominant 111-85 victory.
Given their current circumstances, the Wolves’ rematch against the Warriors is a must-win game. Minnesota is on a five-game losing streak, and the Timberwolves will need to give everything they’ve got to snap their cold spell. However, it might be easier said than done, as an NBA insider announced an important update regarding Wolves star Anthony Edwards.
Anthony Edwards Is Out for Minnesota
After coming off a tough loss to the Warriors on Sunday, it appears Edwards won’t be able to help his team respond. According to NBA insider Anthony Slater, Edwards won’t play on Monday.
“Anthony Edwards is out tonight for the Timberwolves. Late scratch,” Slater wrote on X.

Several reports said his absence on Monday was likely due to lingering foot soreness he has been dealing with since earlier this month. Edwards was listed as out on the injury report for right foot injury maintenance.
Reports indicated the soreness in his right foot stemmed from a lingering toe infection, which forced him to sit out a few games in December. While fans are concerned about his availability in the near future, Edwards is expected to return on Wednesday when the Wolves face the Dallas Mavericks.
While the Timberwolves will be shorthanded without Edwards, the Warriors will also be missing key players. Golden State will be without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who are dealing with right knee and back injuries, respectively. They will also be without Jonathan Kuminga, who has a bone bruise in his left knee, Jonathan Kuminga, and De’Anthony Melton.
Steph Curry and Draymond Green have both been ruled out tonight in the rematch vs the Timberwolves. No Al Horford or De’Anthony Melton either. Warriors finish road trip on Wednesday night in Utah.

Edwards’ absence leaves a major scoring hole. He leads the team with 29.7 points per game, along with 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals. The Timberwolves are 5-4 without him this season and 22-15 with him in the lineup.
With Edwards sidelined, players such as Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, and Donte DiVincenzo will need to step up. On Sunday, DiVincenzo posted 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Given Edwards’ ball-dominant style, Randle will now have the opportunity to showcase his game in the absence of the team’s star.
