Anthony Edwards Deflects Praise After 26-Year-Old Timberwolves Player’s Clutch Moment

On a night filled with thrilling matchups, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets delivered the second most energetic game of Tuesday night. Right behind Stephen Curry’s showdown against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Timberwolves gave a tough fight with Anthony Edwards leading the charge, posting a stellar 34-point performance. However despite his own heroics Edwards chose to spotlight his 26-year-old teammate for stepping up in a defining moment that sealed the victory.

    Anthony Edwards Showcases Selfless Leadership

Despite his own offensive explosion, Edwards didn’t use the postgame spotlight to celebrate his 34-point night. Instead, he redirected the praise towards his teammate Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

“He [Nickeil Alexander-Walker] made big shots for us. All night long, every quarter, whenever we needed him, he came right through in the clutch. He made the right play… So whatever I did, it don’t matter. Whatever he did, he was the MVP tonight,” said Edwards about Alexander-Walker postgame.

As the game edged into its second overtime, the atmosphere inside Ball Arena was electric. Every dribble, every pass, every defensive stand carried the weight of a potential game-winning moment. The Nuggets held a razor-thin 139-138 lead, putting the Timberwolves in a must-score situation with time slipping away.

That’s when Alexander-Walker rose to the occasion. With 0.1 seconds remaining he confidently took a decisive three-point attempt. In the process, he drew a crucial foul from Russell Westbrook. The pressure was immense—three free throws stood between Minnesota and victory.

Alexander-Walker stepped to the line with unwavering composure, calmly sinking two of three shots to push the Timberwolves ahead 140-139. Denver had a final opportunity to steal the game, but their last-ditch attempt fell short, cementing a hard-fought win for Minnesota.

While his game-winning free throws made the headlines, Alexander-Walker’s overall performance throughout the contest was equally impressive. He scored 26 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds while playing aggressive defense.

This victory over the Nuggets wasn’t just another regular-season win; it was also a testament to the Timberwolves’ on-court prowess. With six regular-season games remaining, if they can continue to perform well, they are on for a deep postseason run.

Furthermore, while Edwards praised his teammate, the 23-year-old had nothing but good words for the real star of the night.

Edwards Spoke Highly of Nuggets Star Nikola Jokić

Tuesday night was one for the history books as former MVP winner Nikola Jokić put on spectacular performances. Curry dropped 52 points, while Nikola Jokić delivered a jaw-dropping 61-point triple-double.

Edwards, who led his team to victory, had nothing but admiration for Jokić. Speaking after the game, Edwards acknowledged the Serbian superstar’s greatness.

“That might’ve been the best game of my life. I’ve been part of, Nikola Jokic, oh my god, he might be the best basketball player I’ve ever seen closeup… He’s incredible. The MVP race is tough, he had 60, that’s crazy,” Edwards said during a post-game interview.

Jokić finished the night with 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 18-for-29 from the field. His incredible performance set the record for the most points in a triple-double in NBA history.

With their third-place ranking in the Western Conference, the Nuggets maintain optimal positioning to advance toward the playoffs. At his current performance level, Jokić positions Denver as a top contender to win the championship.

The Wolves, currently the No. 6, continue to hope for a successful playoff run.
