4-Time NBA Champion Draymond Green Predicts Grizzlies Will Trade Ja Morant

Draymond Green recently voiced his opinion of the latest controversy involving Ja Morant on his podcast.

While Morant has been the focal point of the Memphis Grizzlies for seven seasons now, he isn’t exactly always on good terms with his team.

Over the years, Morant has caused trouble off the court, which often affects his team due to the suspensions that results in. The ongoing controversies could eventually prove to be a long-term detriment to Morant’s career.

Green Voices His Opinion on a Potential Morant Trade

Morant appears to be disgruntled with the Grizzlies after he expressed his thoughts on losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in their first NBA Cup game of the season. The Grizzlies’ star ranted about the poor coaching staff and how little playing time he’s had as of late.

Morant is currently averaging under 30 minutes per game for the first time in his career, and he’s naturally noticed the sudden shift in his playing time. Unfortunately for Morant, his recent comments regarding the situation resulted in a one-game suspension, leading to an absence for Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.

Green heard the comments that got Morant into hot water, and the four-time NBA champion believes they could help lead to Morant ultimately being traded.

Green explained on his podcast that he noticed something different in Morant when the Warriors faced off against the Grizzlies on Oct. 27. He told his teammate Stephen Curry that the Grizzlies locker room could be imploding.

Notably, just two games later, Morant allowed his frustration to bubble over and he publicly aired his dissatisfaction with the coaching staff.

“When I saw his comments, I found those interesting,” Green said. “But all they did was confirm to me what I was watching. When we got on that plane (flying to Memphis), I was telling Steph like, ‘Man, Ja ain’t in it at all. It looked like something had happened. Like Ja, it ain’t Ja.’ … And Steph was like ‘Huh? Quiet protest going on, huh?’ And I was like ‘That’s what it looks like.’ Obviously, after the game, we saw the comments, and I was like, ‘Yup.’ And rightfully so, there was something going on.”

Green then continued to explain why Morant is questioning the coach’s leadership. Former Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins was fired due to the front office’s belief that he was pulling the team down. Filling his shoes was none other than his assistant coach, Tuomas Iisalo, whom Morant doesn’t particularly like.

Green revealed that Morant and his teammate, Jaren Jackson Jr., were both against Iisalo’s promotion. However, the Grizzlies’ front office dismissed the stars’ opinions and pulled the trigger anyway. Because of the front office’s dismissive behavior, Green believes that a Morant trade could be on the horizon.

“When you see this, this leaves you in a space of ‘Is this the beginning of the end’,” Green continued. “And it takes you back to Taylor Jenkins getting fired and (the Grizzlies) just bumping (Iisalo) up. When you looked at their team, Jaren, Ja, and those guys, I think they rocked with Taylor Jenkins. … So if that’s the case and you just fire him, you’re almost signaling to Ja and possibly Jaren that you really don’t give a d**n what they think.”

As of this writing, the Grizzlies haven’t announced any intentions to trade their star guard, nor has Morant requested a trade. However, given the current dynamic, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Morant suit up for another team in the coming months.
