Three-time champion Joey Logano is often in the headlines for his feats in NASCAR. With these, he has also made news for being part of several controversies over the years.
However, for his many controversies, Logano has never been in trouble for being foul-mouthed, until recently.
After the Talladega race, Logano has been receiving constant bashing from fans, NASCAR drivers, and even an MLB legend. In the week after the race, things seemed to have gotten heated pretty quickly with all the back and forth.
Although the Team Penske driver spoke about it on several occasions, he was often in a defensive stance. But on a recent episode of ‘Dale Jr. Download’, Logano made a quick appearance and spoke candidly about the whole incident.
The Build-up and Cool Down of Joey Logano and Austin Cindric’s Controversy
At the final lap of Stage 2 at the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega, Logano was leading with his teammate Austin Cindric pushing the No. 22 driver. However, at the last minute, Cindric chose to break the line in order to avoid a crash.
This cost Logano the win, who then went to Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing. Disappointed and furious after this, Logano said:
His rant drew responses from several mighty figures in the NASCAR community who took sides in the matter. Even MLB legend Chipper Jones tweeted about the incident and had a brewing feud, which ultimately ended in a truce after Logano’s Texas victory.
While the Team Penske men did not make much of it and quickly resolved the issue, it was the external noise that mainly fueled the drama.
Joey Logano on ‘Dale Jr. Download’
In a recent episode of Dale Jr.’s podcast, Logano joined in for a while via video call. Sitting in his home office, Logano had his three championship trophies right behind him.
In his red polo and a Coca-Cola hat, Logano was in a rather relaxed mood, and in the initial part of the conversation, he confessed to not being tech-savvy.
Junior then described how he felt when he heard Logano cuss at Austin on the radio during the Talladega race. He said:
“I grew up watching America’s Funniest Home Videos, right? Great show. Bob Saget was the host, and everybody knew him. Then you learn later in life that Bob Saget also does standup, where he cusses a ton. And that was kind of my experience when I saw the things you said about your teammate.”

As the room burst out laughing, Junior further added, “I was like, Joey Logano, what a foulmouth. Did your mother have a problem with that? Did your wife say, ‘Hey, what are you doing?'”
As Logano picked his words, he revealed being a naturally happy and emotional person who often speaks his mind. However, he acknowledged how his attitude can be a little tricky in a competitive environment.
“You put me in a competitive environment, and I really like to win, and I really want things to go a certain way. I work really hard to make sure it does and when it doesn’t, I get pissed off. The filter thing is still not there, and whatever is in my mind comes straight out of the mouth.”
Logano hesitated for a moment before confessing, “Yeah. It uh it unloaded pretty quickly.”
