How Amazon Prime Will Change NASCAR Coverage

NASCAR made a game-changing decision in early 2024. After decades on cable and broadcast TV, the sport made the jump to streaming with a new partner: Amazon Prime Video.

As part of NASCAR’s $7.7 billion media rights deal, Amazon will stream five summer races, starting in 2025.

Could NASCAR really work off cable? Would a streaming giant like Amazon truly grasp the soul of the sport? The streaming giant responded with a resounding yes, bringing in celebrated figures like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and pledging innovation across every screen.

With tools from every corner of its empire, Amazon is reshaping the NASCAR experience, offering tech-driven broadcasts and even in-race shopping.

History will be made as a NASCAR Cup Series race streams exclusively on Prime Video, without a traditional TV broadcast.

With NBC Sports handling backend production, Prime is steering the broadcast. Amazon is also revolutionizing ads by ditching full-screen commercials during green-flag racing in favor of a consistent double-box format. This new ad format lets fans watch the race action in real time, even during commercials. It’s a significant improvement that eliminates the frustration of missing key moments due to full-screen ads. Full-screen ads will only appear during yellow or red flags, never during green-flag racing.

Prime is also debuting ‘Key Moments’ and ‘Rapid Recap,’ with ‘Key Moments’ allowing fans to rewind and catch major highlights instantly.

‘Rapid Recap’ is perfect for those tuning in late, providing a quick two-minute rundown of everything that’s happened before jumping straight into the live race. Combined, these tools change the way we catch up and stay connected to the action.
