NASCAR Star Frankie Muniz Reunites with Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek Ahead of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reboot

The entertainment world was buzzing with excitement on April 22, 2025, when Frankie Muniz shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes photo from Vancouver, British Columbia.

The image featured Muniz alongside Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, his on-screen parents Hal and Lois from the beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle—marking the beginning of production on the highly anticipated Disney+ reboot of the series.

Frankie Muniz: A Family Reunion Two Decades in the Making

Muniz’s Twitter post simply said “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!” but it quickly blew up online. This is the first time these actors have worked together since the show ended back in 2006, that’s almost 20 years ago! Fans are thrilled to see the family that made them laugh for seven seasons getting back together.

The four-episode revival will bring back most of the original family members. Cranston and Kaczmarek will return as the parents, along with Christopher Masterson as Francis and Justin Berfield as Reese. There are some changes though – a new actor named Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will play Dewey since Erik Per Sullivan left acting years ago. We’ll also meet Malcolm’s daughter Leah played by Keeley Karsten.

The story? Malcolm and his daughter get pulled back into typical family craziness when Hal and Lois ask them to come home for their 40th wedding anniversary. Sounds like the perfect setup for the same kind of laughs and family chaos that made the original show win seven Emmys!

Frankie Muniz: From Child Star to NASCAR Driver

Muniz’s journey from child actor to professional race car driver has been well-documented in recent years. His return to acting comes at a time when his profile in the sports world is at an all-time high, with fans excited to see how he’ll balance both careers.

Cranston isn’t just returning as Hal – he’s also stepping into an executive producer role alongside the original creator Linwood Boomer and several others. This ensures the show will maintain its signature style that fans know and love.

The president of Disney Branded Television, Ayo Davis, promised fans that the new episodes will have “all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved—along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

The original creator Linwood Boomer is back writing and producing and Ken Kwapis who directed many original episodes will direct all four new episodes.

With the cameras now rolling and most of the beloved cast back together, the “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot is ready to introduce the crazy Wilkerson family to new viewers while giving longtime fans the reunion they’ve been hoping for.
