NASCAR Teams Up With Nearly $1 Billion Giant for Historic Mexico City Race Broadcast

NASCAR is making history in 2025 with its first ever points paying Cup Series race in Mexico City and the broadcast partnership behind this event is equally groundbreaking. The sanctioning body has secured an exclusive deal with TelevisaUnivision, Mexico’s leading media company with revenues approaching $1 billion to broadcast the race live and free-to-air across the country.

The Cup Series race will take place at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 3 PM ET. Mexican race fans will get to watch everything live on Canal 5, one of TelevisaUnivision’s main channels, with announcers speaking Spanish.

NASCAR Goes Big on International Racing

Instead of going with a global streaming service like Amazon Prime, NASCAR chose to partner with a company that knows the local Mexican audience.

The deal isn’t just about showing one race. TelevisaUnivision will also show NASCAR highlights every week including 52 minute shorter versions of races and quick clips from the entire 2025 NASCAR Cup Series. Fans can catch these on regular TV, on the ViX streaming app and on social media – basically anywhere they might be looking.

Nicholas Skipper, who handles NASCAR’s media strategy, said this partnership is “a significant milestone for our company.” He talked about how NASCAR wants to grow worldwide and give fans the best coverage possible.

Marco Liceaga from TelevisaUnivision said the deal “demonstrates TelevisaUnivision’s commitment to continuing to have the most robust sports portfolio, for the benefit of our audiences and commercial partners.”

Daniel Suárez, a NASCAR driver born in Mexico who started racing in the NASCAR México Series, called the event “a dream come true.” You can tell this means a lot to both drivers and fans in Mexico.

This June 15 race is the first time in recent history that a Cup Series race outside the US will count toward season points. NASCAR has been building up to this for years with the NASCAR México Series and some Xfinity Series races at the same track.

Working with TelevisaUnivision and OCESA (the local promoter) shows NASCAR is serious about connecting with Mexican and Latin American racing fans for the long haul.

While English speakers can still watch on Amazon Prime, the TelevisaUnivision deal makes sure millions of Spanish speaking fans can easily tune in. As we get closer to June 15, Mexico City is set to host one of the biggest events NASCAR has ever put on, showing how serious they are about growing the sport internationally.
