Michigan International Speedway has long captured the imagination of NASCAR fans. It’s known for record-setting speeds, with cars hitting up to 220 mph on the straightaway. With 18 degrees of banking in the turns, 12 degrees on the front stretch, and 5 degrees on the back stretch, the two-mile oval is built for raw velocity, offering drivers the perfect setup to push their cars to the limit.
But while the pavement favors speed, the sky over Michigan often tells a different story. Weather delays have become common in recent years, and dark clouds are already forming over Sunday’s Cup Series main event. That’s led to growing speculation that the FireKeepers Casino 400 could be moved.
Despite the buzz, a NASCAR spokesperson has confirmed the race is still scheduled for Sunday. No changes have been announced.
NASCAR Cup Series Still On for Sunday Despite Forecast
NASCAR weekends have settled into a familiar rhythm this season: Truck Series racing on Friday, Xfinity Series on Saturday, and the Cup Series headliner on Sunday. But this weekend marks a rare shakeup on the calendar.
Instead of starting with the Truck Series, the ARCA Menards Series takes center stage Friday. The Truck race shifts to Saturday, while the Xfinity Series takes an off week.
MIS fans already got a taste of the action, with practice sessions kicking off and teams tuning up for a potentially chaotic weekend. Drivers will be adjusting setups, knowing that any weather delay could impact track conditions when it matters most.

Still, nestled in the heart of the Great Lakes, MIS weather is as unpredictable as a last-lap restart. Forecasts call for clear skies Friday and Saturday, but there’s a 30% chance of rain Sunday afternoon, right when the FireKeepers Casino 400 is set to go green.
That’s kept fans and teams on edge. Rumors have swirled about the race possibly being moved up to Saturday, especially since teams need to prepare for the upcoming Mexico event.
But NASCAR beat reporter Chris Knight confirmed there are no such plans.
“There were rumors swirling around Michigan International Speedway that the Cup race may be moved to Saturday (tomorrow) due to threat of inclement weather and the upcoming Mexico race, but #NASCAR spokesperson confirms that the race will be run on Sunday, Jun. 8, 2025.”
The FireKeepers Casino 400 is the 15th race on the 2025 Cup Series schedule. The event spans 400 miles and 200 laps around MIS. Stage breaks are set for laps 45 and 120.
With more than $11 million in prize money on the line, the stakes are high — and so is the intensity. Teams will need to be aggressive with strategy, especially if weather forces any in-race adjustments or delays.
