NASCAR has finally reached Mexico, and surprisingly, even veteran Martin Truex Jr’s brother is part of the race. Ryan Truex has been running as a part-time driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series.
But now he’s got an opportunity to run in the Cup Series after a long haul. And that too at a historic race. If that wasn’t enough pressure, MTJ added to it with a message for him ahead of the race.
Ryan Truex Revealed Cheeky Advice From Martin Truex Jr
Well, this is the first time a Cup Series points race is scheduled at an international venue. It’s all part of NASCAR’s global expansion plan, and the 33-year-old gets to be a part of it. Additionally, Ryan Truex’s inclusion in the big race is due to Denny Hamlin’s absence from it.
If you recall, for the past few weekends, the New Jersey native was on standby, as Hamlin was on constant baby watch. Finally, Hamlin and his fiancée, Jordan Fish, have welcomed a son, and the veteran wants to spend as much time with his newborn as possible.
In a statement, he had said, “Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five.”
But thanks to this, Ryan Truex is making a comeback to the top-tier stock car series, and coincidentally, it’s at a track where his brother has never lost. In fact, Martin Truex Jr expects Ryan Truex to keep their family legacy going in Mexico.
Well, the 2017 Cup Series champion, back in his day, was dominant on almost every track. MTJ ran 694 Cup races, bagging 34 wins. He’s also a two-time Xfinity Series champion. So naturally, he was one of the best drivers in the sport. Something that Ryan Truex admires, and that’s why he often gets advice from his brother on how to approach a particular track. That’s what he did for the Mexico event.
Also, Martin Truex Jr happens to be a past winner of Mexico. From 2005 to 2008, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez was part of the Xfinity Series schedule, and MTJ won the ’05 race there. So he had a message for Ryan Truex’s debut race there. He said to him, “Truex’s are one for one at Mexico.”
#NASCAR … After Ryan Truex found out he was going to be driving the No. 11 for Denny Hamlin, he texted his brother, Martin.
Martin texted back: “Truexs are 1-for-1 in Mexico”

Clearly, the now-retired driver wants his brother to find victory lane, too, in Mexico. But the race won’t be easy for Ryan Truex. First, he’s not run a Cup race since 2014, which means he’s got no race experience in the next-gen car. Second, the Mexico race has a lot of unknowns, one being how the altitude (7,500 feet above sea level) is going to affect the car.
However, other than boasting about his win, MTJ did have some advice for Ryan Truex on the elevation bit. “Obviously, no one really knows what to expect with the elevation, as none of us have really done a race at this elevation before. I did talk to Martin about it, and he said it didn’t bother him, and I don’t think he’s ever been in the same room as the treadmill. So I should be good,” Ryan Truex shared.
Well, only time will tell how the #11 team does in Hamlin’s absence in Mexico!
