‘Proud of It’ – Kyle Larson Makes Feelings Clear About Missing Historic NASCAR Feat at Bristol

Despite winning in style on Saturday and Sunday, Kyle Larson could not clinch the Triple Header sweep due to his second-place finish on Friday. Ahead of the Bristol weekend, Larson looked hopeful as he attempted the Triple Header for the second time. In his first shot at it, Larson won the Craftsman Truck Series and Cup Series races but missed the mark in Xfinity at Martinsville.

In his most recent display, Larson won the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races but missed the Craftsman Truck Series win despite registering the fastest lap timing.

After his final race of the weekend, Larson appeared for a press conference with his crew chief Cliff Daniels and opened up about missing the Triple Header.

Kyle Larson’s Performances at Bristol Over The Weekend

Larson’s weekend at Bristol began on Friday in a No. 7 Chevy Silverado. Starting at the 11th position, Larson was quick and took no time to move to the front line but struggled to take the lead. Although he came dangerously close to snatching the top spot from lap leader Chandler Smith, he was unable to see it all the way through.

In the end, Smith went on to win the race with a total lead lap count of 127, and Larson finished in the runner-up position.

His Saturday outing at Bristol was quite different from his run in a truck. In his Xfinity Series race, Larson started at the pole in his No. 17 Chevy and was seemingly unstoppable. He led 277 out of 300 laps and won by a difference of 2.054 seconds.

Then came Sunday, where Larson continued his dominance to a degree that made the competition seem fairly one-sided. In the Cup Series race at Bristol, Larson started at the fourth spot and wasted no time taking the lead.

The Hendrick Motorsports ace navigated through the traffic unlike anyone else on the track and was unbelievably fast in his No. 5 Chevy. After sweeping both Stages 1 and 2, Larson went on to win the race after leading 411 laps.

Kyle Larson on Missing The Triple Header

After a hectic weekend, Larson faced the cameras and spoke about his performances at Bristol. Larson began by talking about how his racing schedule has been busier than ever this season. He said he was thankful for having won two races in a row over the weekend.

Larson admitted that he doesn’t overthink these things much, and neither does he excessively celebrate his victories.

“It’s cool to win two times in a row on the same weekend, but I don’t overthink it or celebrate it too much, I guess.”

He further added that he does it all for his love for racing, and he was quite pumped about the Bristol weekend. Although things did not go his way, Larson wished he could have won the Friday race to match Kyle Busch’s record.

“I wish I could have been one spot better on Friday to join Kyle, but regardless, I had a great time this weekend and got to lead a bunch of laps,” he said. “So, yeah, proud of it and hopefully get the chance to do it again in the future.”

In the end, Larson announced that he would not compete in Xfinity and Truck Series for the season. He also added that if all went well, he would try his luck at the Triple Header again next year.
