Leaving behind the acting world to pursue a racing career, Frankie Muniz has had to go through some tough times. He has always been candid about his emotional and mental state as he navigates through life, and his latest update keeps in line with the same.
Competing in the NASCAR Truck Series full-time, the 39-year-old started the year on a positive note, but things have only gone downhill from there. With Muniz posting a worrying update on his mental health, he has found comfort in the words of Kenny Wallace.
Kenny Wallace Comforts Frankie Muniz Amid Tough Times
Driving for the Reaume Brothers Racing team, Muniz takes charge of the No. 33 Ford F150. His latest outing at the Rockingham Speedway ended in yet another disappointment, as he could only secure P23. He was 20 laps behind the race leader when the checkered flag fell.
Taking to X after a tough race, Muniz was “100% honest” in his admission when he wrote, “If I’m being 100% honest… Mentally/Emotionally, I may be at a new low. Just wanted to say it out loud.”
Wallace took note of the driver’s words and made sure to share some inspirational lines for Muniz. Having met the actor-turned-racer in Rockingham, he wrote, “Your life will not change. Untill you change your life” He added, “Be careful young man. Competition will kill you,” before writing it was good to meet him last weekend.
Juggling Professions
Before racing, Muniz was best known for his role as the titular star in FOX sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” from 2000-2006. These days, he is having to balance his schedule as he is also filming a four-part revival of the series. While most details remain unknown, the revival will release on Disney+ at some point.
On the racing side of things, Muniz has suffered three DNFs in the six races since Daytona. One of these DNFs came in Atlanta when he was fighting for a top-ten finish.
Muniz was in the process of being lapped, and Brandon and Jones later blamed the rookie driver, claiming it looked like Muniz was undecided about where he was going to go. He added, “Majeski just had to commit to a lane, and it looked like Frankie did really prepare for it and turned across his nose.”
Given his season stats, Muniz sits 24th in the drivers’ standings, besting just one full-time driver (Nathan Byrd).
Muniz will return to racing ways when NASCAR reaches the Texas Motor Speedway on May 2nd. The event will mark the start of a 6-week Truck Racing schedule without a break, adding to the ongoing physical and mental struggles the 37-year-old currently faces.
