If there are two people who have been crucial in the making of Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s docu-series, they have to be his children, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Kelley Earnhardt. And fans who don’t know, Amazon Prime is coming up with a four-part documentary called ‘Earnhardt.’ It will show the story of “The Intimidator’s” life and how he became one of the greatest drivers of the sport.
Well, the makers have promised eager fans of catching rare archival footage of Dale Sr, probably something that the fans haven’t seen yet. Also, it would feature intimate interviews from Dale Sr’s closest friends and family.
The best part is that the docu-series is taking a deeper dive into Earnhardt Sr’s story. Even exploring his family dynamics. We all know how Junior has often spoken about Dale Sr being absent from his childhood. Hopefully, it’s a good one. And ahead of its release, Kelley Earnhardt spoke of the goal behind the whole docu-series.
Kelley Earnhardt Sheds Light on What the “Earnhardt” Series Plans To Achieve
Well, undeniably, Dale Sr was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR’s history to have ever lived. Seven Cup champions, 76 wins. But it’s not just the racing stats that make him great. Had he not passed away in the 2001 Daytona 500 crash, these stats would have been much greater.
When he came into the sport, he won everyone over. A small mill town boy who achieved so much was a story that fans were in awe of. His era is considered the golden period of NASCAR. As Dale Sr became a household name. Even people who weren’t fans of the sport knew who he was. And speaking of fans, Dale Sr was probably one of the most polarizing drivers ever.
During his time, you either were an Intimidator fan or you weren’t. And the “Earnhardt” docu-series hopefully captures all the nuances of his life. Well, Amazon is releasing the first two episodes on May 22. So the wait is not that long. But ahead of it, Kelley Earnhardt has revealed the reasons behind coming up with the series.
She was recently on the “Rubbin’ is Racing” podcast, where she said “we want the new fans, you know, to know more about (Dale Sr). We want our dad’s legacy to continue on, to carry on, to live on. And there’s so many people that don’t know about a seven-time champion and all the great things that he did in the sport. And why he’s respected, it’s a new generation.”
Well, surely old or new, any fan of NASCAR knows who Dale Sr was. But with the series, the newer ones might get to know more of his greatness and the position he holds in the sport, even after two decades of his passing.
Earlier, Dale Jr. had taken a shot at explaining how big Earnhardt Sr was in NASCAR. He had said, “He was a John Wayne figure who just kind of transcended the man and the person that we knew. Fans of his thought he was indestructible and bulletproof and couldn’t do anything wrong. He was this larger-than-life otherworldly thing. And, so, they worshipped him. You know, it was insane.”
In short, he single-handedly filled out grandstands. And well, still, no amount of words can capture his grandeur. But let’s hope the docu-series does!
