NASCAR took its first points-paying Cup Series race outside the U.S. in over 50 years to Mexico City. As expected, things got spicy both on and off the track, re-igniting a feud that took place two weeks ago.
While Shane van Gisbergen grabbed the headlines with his big win, a familiar fight stole the spotlight again. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was not done with Carson Hocevar yet, at least not after what happened on track at Mexico. But it seemed like fans were more interested in Josh Berry’s reaction to the tussle, which left everyone laughing.
Tensions Flair Up Between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Carson Hocevar
The whole feud started two weeks ago in Nashville, when Hocevar spun Stenhouse into the outside wall and ended his race early. There was brief hostility between the two, which ended with Hocevar’s apology. It looked like they had calmed down until the Mexico race day.
Late in the race, Hocevar, who was already a lap down, braked a little too late into the tight stadium section and bumped into the back of Stenhouse, spinning him out yet again. And just like that, things were back to square one.
Stenhouse didn’t wait. As soon as the cars stopped on the pit lane after the race, he marched over to Hocevar’s car and leaned into his window with some heavy words. When asked what he said, Stenhouse told NASCAR reporter Jordan Bianchi, “I told him I was going to beat his a** once we got back in the States.”

That wasn’t a joke. And it definitely wasn’t the first time Stenhouse showed his temper. Last season, he got fined $75,000 for punching Kyle Busch during the All-Star Race. He’s clearly not afraid to handle things in a violent manner.
Hocevar, meanwhile, ended up 34th after causing the last caution. Stenhouse finished 27th, but judging by his mood, that didn’t seem to matter much.
Josh Berry Becomes the Internet’s Favourite Spectator
While everyone was watching the Stenhouse-Hocevar clash, Berry was just hanging around in the background with the calmest expression ever. He looked like a guy watching some TV drama unfold.

Fans on social media jumped on it instantly. One fan joked, “Josh is like get me some popcorn.” Another said, “Josh Berry wondering if Ricky Stenhouse Jr is giving Carson Hocevar frozen Fun Pops or other pops that only Ricky finds fun.” A fan wrote, “To be Josh Berry in this moment.”
Berry’s laid-back reaction ended up stealing a bit of the spotlight. He didn’t need to say anything; the memes said it all.
Gisbergen may have won the race and locked in a playoff spot, but back in the garage, the drama between Stenhouse and Hocevar, along with Berry’s reaction, had everyone talking.
