Reigning Champion Joey Logano Opens Up on Texas Rebound After Morale-Killing NASCAR Slump

Joey Logano earned his first win of the season at Texas Motor Speedway on May 4. The victory came just one week after his teammate, Austin Cindric, gave Team Penske its first win of the year at Talladega.

Logano started the race in 27th and led only seven of the 271 laps. But he still pulled off one of the most surprising wins of the season, crossing the finish line first in dramatic fashion. Afterward, he opened up about the relief of finally ending his long winless streak.

With just a few laps to go, Logano took the lead on Lap 264 and held off a late push from Ryan Blaney to seal the win.

“Yeah, it’s been kind of heartbreaking being close quite a few times and never getting in the victory lane,” said the 2024 Cup Series champion. “So it was a special one to be able to click one off for them and for the 22, right?

“To be able to, you know, after what happened last week, to be able to rebound and come right back. Umm, you know, it has a total 22 way of doing this. So, um, proud of the team, and uh, give me a fast car, right?

“If you have a really fast car, you just have to methodically pick ‘em off throughout the race, have some good restarts there at the end, and execute those parts of it — and ultimately get the win.

“It was an exciting last few laps. One particular moment going down the back straightaway was really, really sketchy, but yeah, it felt like I had to make that move and it was worth the risk.”

The win gave Ford and Team Penske back-to-back Cup Series victories and marked Logano’s 37th career Cup win. With the victory, Logano also locked in his playoff spot. Now, Ryan Blaney is the only Penske driver without a postseason berth.

Logano knows how fast things can change in NASCAR. Just a week earlier, he was disqualified at Talladega due to a missing spoiler bolt, which cost him a fifth-place finish.

But instead of letting the setback bring him down, Logano bounced back in a big way.

This season hasn’t been easy for the two-time Cup champion. The Texas win was just his second top-10 finish of 2025, and last week’s result was wiped out. Still, Logano now sits ninth in the standings with 288 points — and a whole lot of momentum.
