Daniel Suàrez Reveals Update From Mexico Amid Looming NASCAR Weekend Uncertainty

It’s no secret that NASCAR needs its Mexico City race weekend to be perfect. No one wants that more than Cup Series driver Daniel Suàrez. For him, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez stadium event is a home race and a strong chance to bag a checkered flag.

But there is a chance that Mother Nature might not be kind during that weekend. In fact, Suàrez recently shared an insight into the weather update from Mexico.

This is the first time NASCAR will run a points race at an international venue. Based on this, NASCAR will decide its further strategy and possible international venues for the sport’s global expansion.

The weather forecast, though, might not be too hot. Suàrez, though, is still positive about how things might unfold.

Daniel Suarez Opens Up on How Rain Might Affect the Mexico City Race

NASCAR reaches Mexico after the FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race, which takes place at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 8. Suàrez talked about the Mexico weekend weather forecast at the pre-race press conference in Michigan.

“It looks like rain throughout the next week in Mexico,” a reporter asked Suàrez. “With all the other challenges, what might that course be like with rain?” Suarez was reminded of a photo some fans from Mexico recently sent him. It was a billboard of him, almost submerged under water after heavy rains there.

NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck was quick to get a snap of it in the press conference. In a post on X, Gluck shared that photo and wrote, “There was a lot of rain in Mexico City last week, and someone sent @Daniel_SuarezG a picture of his billboard being flooded in an underpass.”

Well, Suàrez was amused by this, but he wasn’t worried about the race getting affected by rain.

“But anyway, yeah, the forecast can change,” Suàrez said in response to the reporter. “Listen, if it rains, obviously it’s a road course, so we’re going to be fine. It’s just one more equation into the race. Regardless of what happens, I think it’s going to be good. We’ll find out, but we’ll be ready. There have been races there in the past with rain, so it should be fine.”

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a staple on the Formula One calendar. Formula One racing can be tricky on this course. Suàrez probably wants conditions to be as dry as possible.

“But hopefully it doesn’t,” Suàrez said about potential rainfall. “Hopefully, we’re racing in the dry. If it rains, hopefully it’s not a lot. I think the last time I saw the forecast, it was like 50% or something like that. There is a chance that it can go either way.”

There’s still some time before the Mexico City race takes place. Hopefully, whether in good or bad weather, the race can be a thriller.
