We are not even halfway into the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, and Corey Heim already has half as many wins as he had last season after his third win came at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, May 2.
And to be fair, this season has pretty much been all “Heim time” so far. First, he won the season-opening race in Daytona. Then he won at Las Vegas. And almost won Homestead Miami, before his truck strangely got shut down on the final lap.
Also, last month, the Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin-owned 23XI Racing signed him as a developmental driver. Promising him a few Cup starts this season. And now, most recently with his Texas win, he has managed to break “Rowdy’s” Truck Series record.
Corey Heim Becomes Truck Series’ Winningest 22-Year-Old
The SpeedyCash.com 250 win was Heim’s 14th in his Truck Series career. And he’s just 22 years old, achieving that. Which also makes him the youngest to achieve this feat. Kyle Busch is the Truck Series’ all-time winningest driver with 67 wins, and when he got to 14 wins, he was 24 years old.
And until Heim’s Texas win, Busch was the youngest driver in NASCAR to get their first 14 wins. If you recall, “Rowdy’s” 14th Truck Series win was back in 2009 when he won the New Hampshire Motor Speedway race.
While this seems like an easy record for Heim to chase, the Texas win was no cake walk. And that’s after the Tricon Garage driver led 96 out of the 250 laps in the race. The challenging part was surviving the two overtime restarts and holding off Daniel Hemric and Ben Rhodes for the checkered flag.
But his mindset sealed it. After the race, Heim said, “I wasn’t going to let that one get away from me. I’ve given up too many this year so far. I’m just overwhelmed, so many restarts there at the end, and guys were taking me three-wide. I wasn’t going to let them take it from me… They tried to take me three-wide into 1, and I drove until I couldn’t any more.”
Breaking his ex-boss’s record had to feel extra sweet. Heim started his NASCAR career with Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), debuting at Darlington in 2021. He ran part-time with KBM in 2021 and 2022 before moving to Tricon Garage full-time in 2023.
In fact, Heim’s first win in the Truck Series also came with KBM in 2022. Beating teammate Chandler Smith at Atlanta. Surely, Busch must be proud that his ex-driver was the one who finally broke his longtime record. And more so, he did it in just three seasons, while it took Busch seven to reach his 14 wins.
Now the big question: can Heim turn all these wins into a championship?
