MLB Legend Chipper Jones Heaps Praise On Joey Logano After Brilliant Texas Fightback

After ripping into Joey Logano’s Talladega radio outburst, Chipper Jones surprised many by changing his tune after the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas. Did the former MLB MVP genuinely reconsider his stance—or was it just a respectful nod to a well-earned win?

Logano stormed back to victory on Sunday, clinching his first win of the 2025 season with a late-race surge. But instead of more heat from Jones—the Hall of Fame third baseman who had blasted Logano just a week earlier—the tone shifted. This time, it was support.

“Congratulations to (Joey Logano),” Jones posted on X. “A HOF driver with a masterful win. This is what NASCAR fans expect from you. Hard charging wins and gracious top 5s and 10s. Well done!”

Logano’s Texas win marked his second career Cup victory at the 1.5-mile oval in Fort Worth. It was also a strong response to a turbulent week at Talladega, where things went sideways both on and off the track.

During Stage 2 at Talladega, Logano vented over the radio after teammate Austin Cindric refused to push him for the stage win. Cindric backed off, worried the move could trigger a wreck. In a twist of irony, Cindric went on to win the race. Logano, meanwhile, didn’t hold back.

“Way to go Austin, way to go, you dumb f***, way to f****** go,” Logano shouted over the radio. “What a stupid s***. You just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What a dumba**. Put that in the book again.”

To make matters worse, Logano was later disqualified for an illegal spoiler violation after finishing fifth.

Despite all that, Jones extended an olive branch after Logano’s win in Texas. But not everyone bought it.

“You back peddling after all that noise last week,” one user commented. “Joey 3x will be a HOFer and he’s great with fans.”

Jones fired back in the replies.

“Backpedaling? No,” Jones wrote. “Appreciating a great race and sportsmanship. HOFers are always held to a higher standard and should be.”

Still, the internet stayed hot. Some fans slammed Jones for “flip-flopping” on Logano just a week after his harsh words.

“Chipper in shambles being forced to congratulate Joey this week after cursing him last week because Joey had an immediate reaction on the radio to a move that he couldn’t see from his perspective until after the race,” one fan commented.

Another user urged him to stay consistent:

“Come on chipper stick to your guns race fans will stick with you if you do,” he added.
