A dismal showing at the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway has ignited a firestorm among NASCAR fans, who have taken to social media to demand immediate changes to the sport’s Next Gen race car. Frustrated fans and viewers voiced their outrage over the bore-fest they watched at Bristol.
NASCAR’s Next Gen car has come under heavy fire since it was introduced in 2022 as a modernization effort for the sport. But after another underwhelming showing on a track known for its action, fans are now fed up with the Next Gen car and are calling it a failed experiment by the sport’s governing body.
NASCAR’s Next Gen Car Under Severe Fire, Accused of Destroying Sport
The controversy around the Next Gen car has triggered an outpouring from fans on X.
One fan expressed, “Simply just fix the car and you wouldn’t need to throw dirt or turn tracks into superspeedways. Stop with the gimmicks and spend the money to fix the f****** car.”
Another frustrated fan replied, “Embarrassed about the sport, embarrassed about this car. Embarrassed about the broadcast. Something needs to change #NASCAR.”
Tired of the constant tire talk, one fan shared, “At some point NASCAR has to wake up and realize they put the wrong people in the important decision making areas. I’m tired of hearing about tires. I don’t care anymore. I don’t want to hear a fix for anything unless it involves increasing horsepower.”
Sharing that same opinion and blaming Goodyear’s tires for the Next Gen car’s issues, another fan added, “Before next gen I would agree with you but now? No. This is all on the car, Goodyear can only do so much and we can’t keep relying on Goodyear to cover up NASCAR’s mistakes.”
“I blame NASCAR execs going to Supercars races in like 2017 and deciding to copy their cars for all of this,” added another fan, pointing the finger at leadership for the poor decisions in past years.
Fed up with the car’s disappointing showings, one supporter said, “Yeah. I’m over the Next Gen car. #nascar.”
“NASCAR should be ashamed of this joke of a product they have on TV right now,” expressed another fan of the sport.
Bristol’s short track has long been one of the most exciting stops for the NASCAR Cup Series and a fan favorite. That wasn’t the case this time, however, and fans are holding the Next Gen car responsible.
